Where is the love?

My name is Dan Willson. I'm new to this forum but not to airboating. I've been airboating for over 40 years. What i heard this weekend almost made me sick!!!!

I was told over the weekend that an airboat with 6 or 7 people flipped over on the st johns river in melbourne. I guess it happened about 2 weeks or so ago. What concerned me was what transpired next. As a long time airboater we have always had a code to live by. If someone is in trouble YOU HELP THEM!!!

What i heard was this. Maybe i was told wrong. I sure hope so!!! I was told that after the boat flipped over that a local airboat Tour boat guide name Capt Mike T. CHARGED the man to pluck his passengers out of the water and return them to safety!!!! REally??? Then proceeded to tell him that he would get his boat unsunk for $4000 dollars!!!! Is this for real????? From what i was told he was told NO and a group of guys from melbourne came up and got the boat floating and towed back to the ramp for him for free as it has always been done!!! So my friend told me that this guy Capt Mike T. also brought a boat full of local T.V. reporters up there FREE OF CHARGE!!!!! I can't believe that he would charge to help the 6 or 7 people in distress (floating in alligator infested waters) but not charge the reporters!!! I guess he figured he could make himself look like the Hero of the day while drumming up free advertisement for his business!!! NOW THIS IS THE WORST PART OF THE STORY!!!! This guy Capt Mike T. is the President of the Brevard Airboat Association!!!!! If this is all true; I sure am glad I'm not a part of that organization!!!!!!!

Please someone tell me that this is not how it really went down!!!!!!!!! Where is the love man????????

Man I hope that's not really how it went down. We always stop and help anybody in need. Whether it is 5 gals of gas, helping repair a broke axle on trailer at 4am, or whatever, I use it as an oppurtunity to teach my boys the right thing to do, because one day that will be us broke down or on the side of the road.

The old way how I was brought up is to help when ever you could to anyone in trouble and ask for nothing, What goes around comes around. Today's world is get anything you can when you can, it's their problem they should pay for help to get out of an emergency situation. So Sad people think this way !

My name is Tina Lynn Nail, I am the President of the Brevard County Airboat Association. Obviously the information you got was incorrect. While I wasn’t there, I have looked into the story that was being passed around and found it to be mostly untrue with a few half truths. I have messages from the sunken passengers, thanking Mike T. for coming to their aid. He got the call and left his home to rescue them. He did not charge them for the rescue, however, they did give him some money for his fuel and time. Now he did tell them it would be costly for him to recover the boat as he would lose the day’s business that was already scheduled. He also told them, he really didn’t want to do it. You can’t really blame the guy, his boat is his livelihood. He claims to have taken several tow straps and left them for the guys that did recover the boat.
I’m A lifetime member of our club and take great pride in it and the marsh I grew up in. While there’s always a few bad eggs in every group and a lot of different opinions, our members are stand up folks. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm if you’d like to stop in and say hello. Hope this clears a few things up for ya.

This is Capt Mike from Haulinbass. I have received numerous texts and emails about this incident. No it was not me. AND no I would not charge anyone for help or accept any money :texas: :florida: from persons distressed

Wow is right!!! Dan if some of that is true, that's pretty low. However, I was there. All the guys that where in the water that day all said about the same thing. Just glad no one was injured and all worked out I
O.k!

Trying to send some pictures I took of it but they won't loaf for some reason. Anyway it was pretty impressive to see how much work those guys put in to get that thing rolled back over and floating. It was a big boat and No dry ground in site!! It's about 6 feet deep at the moment.

My buddy Rick was there as well. I called him and he said that the guy who's boat sunk is the guy that he got the info from. Thats right from the horses mouth!
