Where to go?

I will be there!

Hopefully lots of folks will get to make it, I look forward to meeting you.

Let's set a date soon so I can be sure and get that day off.

A1, where are you out of? Salt Springs is not too far from here at all.

thanks red thats the spot pan south to the bottom we can run down there to juniper run and the river area or run north to the rodman, ocklawaha run depends on mother nature. The big lake is lake george its the largest lake in the st johns river chain. the part that is whited out is a bombing range but its seldom used and we wont be out in the middle anyway. check out http://www.eliteresorts.com/saltsprings/default.asp this is where I recomend to stay the cabins are neat and clean and a real nice place with lots of amenities also its across the street from salt springs. a map to get there is at http://www.eliteresorts.com/saltsprings ... efault.asp a good site on the forest is http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/florida/recreat ... _oca.shtml theres a grocery store with a gas station, liqour store, restaurant, and a good honky tonk all right there! hope this info helps the spring runs are crystal clear and nice and cool so bring your swimmin trunks (no thunder in a speedo  )

I would say the 30th of july I have already took that day off and my boat should be done before then.

Hey Folks I hope someone has noticed that marion countyy has passed a 90db @ 50' ord. and has it posted at all applicable ramps. I am not sure salt springs and surrounding area is going to welcome us with open arms. Just something to check on

thanks 141 this is one reason Thunder and I got this monthly run started we wanted to check out as many places that we could before we are all corraled into one little pond with an fwc lifegaurd. I am going up next weekend to poke around, I know there were alot of airboats runnin around up there I kind of lived there a year and a half ago but if I wanted to stay married I had to come out of the woods ive had a camp there for years so I know my way around very well. If anyone has any current info ,or suggestions on the run help is always appreciated to make each one better and better

Croc, where should we put in?

Can you post directions to the ramp?

Hey Guys,

We were down riding the Forest yesterday(4x4) & wound up at the little store at Salt Springs. Saw the 3rd Airboat around there, all on their trailers.

They were all those little squirlly boats & only one with mufflers. :)
Talked to the young fellow with mufflers while he gassed up & loaded up his beer. Said he might come on the Forum when he had a chance. It was an aircraft engine & pretty nice outfit.

But none said anything abt the Marion Co ordinance.

Would say abt the ramps but Croc1 prob knows more on the subject than I do. No boat yet but hope to get loose enough to get down there for a while maybe anyway.

You should come Gben. I don't have a running boat yet either, but I'm going to try and get a friend to bring his.

three countys come together 1/2 mile north of salt springs marion, putnam and volusia we can put in at all three but it will probably be volusia county either at the salt springs landing or down south a bit. I am going up this weekend instead of going to the krvsa ride to double check everything . if anyone would like to meet up pm me . I will be posting all of the details and maps next week. you can get some info on the links a few post above this one. gbenzx ride your wheeler in the forest while you can they are shutting down 99% of it at the end of the year.

Croc1,

Got several "aquaintences" here in Collier county that bought property around the forest in the past few years> Why are they closing it up to the 4X4's?

Ok Guys,

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/florida/

Looks like they've just closed 8200acs on the very south end of Ocala Forest near Linadale to all off road vehicles. Licensed vehicles only on numbered roads. :(

The tract borders hwy 42 E&W on the south side & FR 587 E&W on the north side & runs to Hwy 19 to the east.

They have pictures posted on their site of the little pond they have been so worried abt for 5 yrs that I know of. The young whipersnappers just can't seem to stay outta there with their muddin practice & this one little iotta figment is what has triggered the closure.

Now they've created some new found $$$ for the Enviro & Law firms with a thing they call Access Designation Processes. It is being drawn into sections & use lines on all US Forests & will show they say where one can go & what can & cannot be used. The one for Ocala is slated for release the first of 06.

There has been some mouthwork from the CryBaby network abt the little pond & just the ticket they need to pay more of their $Buddies. The damage they crow abt is not even .01 of one percent of the 384,000 acres.
And this is the same scheme they used last year to close the 1200 acres on FR88 with the sand pit near Delancey but yet the Rangers tell us it is only a Temporary Thing until the erosion & the grass stabilizes.

We'll see,

Gben

May not be needed but would like to mention Salt Springs Recreation Area which is right across Hwy 19 from Elite Resort.

It is a State Park I thimk with abt 40 RV Spaces & maybe 30 or so tent sites. Prob was when I went back to the State Park site couldn't find it, could have been doing maint or something. Can be found tho on the Reserve America site.

Don't know if you guys will get upto Rodman Dam area or not but above the dam Rodman Reservior is full of stumps. So with the water high unless one knows exactly where the old river run is beware, not boat friendly at all. :(

Croc,

Do you know if you can bypass the Lock at the Greenway & get in/out the Cross Fl Barge canal (Big Ditch)?

Thnx, Gben

thanks gben your very right about the reservoir can be very dangerous if you go out of the marked channel I put in last weekend at the hog valley ramp and ran the ocklawaha staying out of the reservoir and it was awsome to get past the dam you would have to run alot of road and through the picknik grounds I think !! we could drive up and look to se a way around. heres the link to the springs http://www.dep.state.fl.us/springs/loca ... magmap.htm click on the spring on the map your would like info on hope this helps

Thanx Croc,

Brotherinlaw was going to bring his bass boat from St Augustine & meet in Palatka.
But his motor wasn't finished yet so we'll just go 4x4 Bear huntin I guess. :) I wanted to pilfer a little with the boat.

Every time the Rangers or Warden sees me down there in the 4x4 or on the Kubota I always have my old trusty machetti & a chain saw. When one of them asked me one day what I was doing I said I was Bear huntin.
When I pointed to the big blade the grin finally came & they haven't forgot. :)

Gben
