WHERE TO RIDE???

Last time we went out there for frogs, we started right after dark.

We started seeing frogs right away that night, so sometimes the frogs do come out early. It was a clear bright night also, an some say that makes the spooky.

I know the frogs are there, but you never know when they will come out.

Someone asked for a map above.

I'm planning to make up a flyer and post it, so vote on the time of day poll for this ride soon. It's located in this forum, and I'll use that to guage everyones preference aboat the time of day.

Considering a quick sign in and meeting for the frogging boats. Member I.D. Boat regestration number, and contact numbers. Frogging to start right after that. (dark)

Frog until 12 a.m.

Have someone at the landing for weigh in at 11 through 12.
I think we will just way whole frogs in a standard frog sack. Ties broken by frogs weighed earliest.

All boats must check in at 12 at the landing if they weigh frogs or not. They could call our cell phones if they want to stay out. I just think we need everyone to check out.

Any frogging boats not checked out will have thier phone numbers called, to try and find out if they are lost, broke down, or whatever. If someones stuck out there, then we will go out and find them.

This will be fun, but we can't leave anyone out there.
 
cowboy and 141 thanks for all of your help puttin this together and makin these monthly runs more fun and organized sounds like this ones gonna be more fun than the last unfortunatly Im gonna be in Alaska and will miss this one but I will be here to help on the salt springs run in july

My grandfather,(god bless his soul) built fishing cabins on the "big lake" in the fifties! I grew up riding in his front yard on his airboat which was probably the only one in Scottsboro, Alabama in the sixties. Can't wait to ride it!

I'll volunteer my wife's southern style baked beans for the meal!

I'll also volunteer to help with the "weigh-in" as I couldn't trade my recliner on the boat in for a frog chute! And as Darell Waltrip says I just don't have the "spearance" for froggin!

Did ya'll get all the rain up ther that we got the past few days! The airboat Gods have blessed us down here!

Hey cntry141iq, are you gonna use those "special" gigs that I saw on your boat!

Gotta tell everybody...Cntry has a tow behind barge for towing all the frogs! We'll ned a truck scale just for him!

You've got plenty of time to get a frog chute together. You should, cause it won't take much to out frog me.

If the lake is getting low (Iknow it is), then we may have to run alot of open water.

Usually we put in at Okee-Tantee, and go into the marsh in the back of king's bay. We usually run the inside trail accross the hay fields, to Indian Prarrie. Stop there and go on to the pump station from the trail that comes out at the end of the indian prarrie levee. Sometimes we run the ditch on down to the monkey box area.

I know that they are dropping the lake, and last summer we had to take the outside trails to Indian Prarrie. The outside trails were deeper water, but still sheltered. I know that the inside trail to the pump station dries up quick. One thing I have learned, is how fast things change on the Lake during the summer.

I guess we will have to scout a decent route for the ride the weekend prior to the 25th.

I don't claim to be all knowing about the Lake Marsh areas, but I know those spots by night and day. That's why I agreed with cnrty141 that it would make for a decent ride. I figured that Okee-Tantie would be easy for folks to find. I've seen the ramp you mentioned from the ditch. Is it hard to find?

I do think we need to do some long trail riding for those who come to the ride, and don't want to frog. Need to make it worthwhile for them.

If the lake is not too rough that Sat. Perhaps the first stop might be Kings bar, and then on to other points of interest.

Bottom Line: I just want people to have a good safe time on this ride. I don't care where we go, so long as that happens. If you have some suggestions about the ride route, then man I sure would like to hear them.
You probably know alot more of the lake than I do.
 
Dyess ditch is an excellent place to launch an airboat. Its easy to find .. when you see twin palms camp & bar in lakeport just turn towards the lake go up the dike and your there. lots of parking .. leave your trialer in the wate rif you want or dump the boat on the ground and drive it in. Only drawback is I dont think there are any lights when yoiu come back after dark but the plus side of that is less bugs.

By the looks of the poll, most folks are leaning towards the night time, and frogging anyhow. It may not matter to them how much daytime riding we do.

I wish some of the interested members would offer some input about what sort of trip they would like to have out there.

If they don't, I guess we will just have a hard core frog hunt, after a nice meal with the sun going down.
 
Cowboy: Personally there aint a darn thing pretty about a daytime ride on okeechobee except for the sunsets or sun rises. The dead mellaluca trees and sprayed cattails together with the wide open expanses of water I mean you have seen it all in 15 minutes or less.

Now when it gets dark you are froggin, runnin over gators, tryin to figure out where in the heck you are and why should you go down a trail that goes away from where you think you need to go so you can get there .. now then its fun.

If we could oragnize stickers for everyone and run up fish eatin creek there is some scenery there but the water is low and the marshes up there are dry.

I aint pickin on okeechobee but it is what it is ... boring and hot as heck in the daytime and lots of fun at night.

Is the twin palms a campground? Where is there close to Lakeport for tent camping or RV camping?

Sure would like to see as much of the lake as possible as this will be my boats first trip there!Could we ride as much as possible before supper time?

Ridin suits me fine yep twin palms may have spots you have two or three more in lakeport and also motel rooms.
 
Should have had the ride here in melbourne there is water now, also alot of frogging and you can pull your boat right up to the camp sites there is alot of them out on the marsh here, and a ton of trails.we could ride all day,all night, or both days and nights we have south of 192 all the way to sr 60, and north of 192 as far as you want to go, heck all the way to jacksonville.

There is no doubt about your general description of Okeechobee.
The best thing about the daytime riding is stopping, and meeting people out there. If you can find a shady spot. It's not the best daytime airboating in Florida, but beats not airboating at all.

Being out there at night is a blast, and I have a hard time forcing myself to go back to the landing at a decent hour. Wind up getting back to the house about sunrise every time.

I want you do be able to do the riding you want. Like Cntry said, 15 min ride, and you've seen it all. That's why I think that the original plan to go down to the pump station from Okeetantie, then frog our way back is the best for everybody. This way you could more than see it all.


I think most everbody should try and frog. If they don't want to, then we will have a boat lead them back to the landing after supper.

I think you should get your frog chute together, and frog with us. You'll have a great time. You'll see what Cntrty said is true. " Okeechobee after dark is alot of fun"

Perhaps we can log on to the chat session tonight to discuss it further. I'll be away next week, so I won't be able to discuss these issues for a while.
 
Hey CC your turn is comin pick a month and seterup like they say build it and they will come we will be there. I run somewhere every weekend if it aint broke or snowin. so dont even have to be a once a month run. some folks can't make a specific day or weekend so more scheduled tours means more people get involved. I use my boat a therapy its cheaper than a head doctor. Like I said if it aint broke .. I'm runnin it somewhere.
 
Any where to stay in a cabin or something like that for the weekend. How about those GPS numbers for where we will meet up at.
 
cc lets do melb this weekend and do a salt springs pre run on july 16th I havent been up ther in at least six months and I know the waters over my dock and check on any new closed areas its a 2 hour ride from here .just another idea
 
sounds good to me but I'm one of the people that has to work on saturdays so I have to take them off or go late in the afternoon on saturday or on sundays
