Whisper tip 2.0

bandkiller

Well-known member
Just purchased a new whisper tip 2.0. Pulled it out of the box and it has lots of blemishes, is this normal?

Do they normally have areas with chips in the blade and spots along the back edge that don’t have a smooth finish? Also do they normally have a a spot on the end where it sits in the hub that has no finish on it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Call Whirlwind and ask for Patty, she will take care of you. There is normally blemishes do the the process they use but yours are pretty excessive. It will NOT hurt to run them that way but if you are not happy and don't want to except them that way for the money you spent just let them know and they will work with you. You have 30 days from the date you received them to send them back as long as you didn't mess them up in anyway.

As of late the finish on Blades in general has changed. A friend of mine recently ordered a 4 blade JX full carbon fiber and it looked like it had 500 hours run time new out of the box. The material and manufacturing process now just lends to less cosmetic appeal. Without the blades in hand I can't say but as of yet I personally have not seen a shank that was effected. Usually it's porosity in the blades surface. Is the shank flat spotted or was it ground where the finish is missing or is it just a cosmetic matter?

If you asked for very light high performance blades then this could be the reason they appear this way.

Hard to say but WW does like rpm so they may be pushing to lighten them more.

Please let us know the response so we can all become more informed the why and what of the product.

UPDATE

I called whirlwind, they wanted me to send pics of all the blemishes. I sent them to them and they inspected through pictures. They told me that 90% of the props look like this right out of the mold. It is all cosmetic and will not affect the blade or the performance. They said to run them and not worry, that after a couple rides the blemishes get smoothed our and you will never see most of them.

Just thought I would give an update on my experience. Now I just need to install!

It's sad we pay top dollar for these blades and they are ok with that? That shank looks horrible I'd be worried it would turn in the hub. I'm no prop expert but seems like quality control is lacking.

They were made on a Friday or a Monday.
Not sure who you spoke to, but when Patti sees this, she will see to it to be corrected, I have all faith in WW products and I'd run those blades without question for what it's worth.
