So far I can only get an answer that Bob Hoover and Phil Walters are running for FAA president. There's two weeks left, who do you want to support?

You may want to restart it or note that this is unofficial opinion poll or something.

I can follow having an "official" ballot poll in the board area, and then another opinion poll in the general area. But some may be confused by that.

The real vote should only be from stie supporters.

just my opinion.

What kind of campaigning are these guys doing. I for one don't know jackcrap about either one of them. Is this a good ole boy club, or a florida representative club who should be informing the public on thier missions etc. I just did a google search to get the club website and it is down for repairs etc. At such a crucial time (election time) shouldn't it be up and running so we can see who will be the elected official representing the airboating community. Seems to me if your gonna call yourself the FLORIDA airboat association you should be doing your best to let the rest of the state know your intentions in Tallahassee....

Anybody familiar with the bylaws? I wonder since D-B is an S.A member, and S.A. is a member group, what's the criteria for nomination? Maybe they are worried over what they consider outsiders.

D-B for Pres., the motion has been seconded, all in favor raise your right hand(the one with the beer in it)...

Just so y'all know, the voting in the FAA works like this:

Clubs have a delegate that attends the meetings.

In theory, the delegate is supposed to discuss the issues with the dues paying members. And when a consensus is reached, this is what the delegate votes for at the FAA meeting.

There are business members too, most I THINK are charter captains and more-or-less small outfits, so in that case, it's "one member - one vote". (it's for this reason that I sometimes call the FAA a "Professional Association" more than a "Representative Orginization").

But for the clubs, it's a delegate system.

There is another poll exactly the same as this one running in "The Board" area which is only seen by folks who are site supporters (dues paying members).

The poll above is there for opinion only. But it's very close to the opinion of the site supporters. (although, last I checked, choice #1 had 0 votes)

Rich, You speak some good words there. The answer from here: (and I'm an outsider) it seems they claim to represent Florida airboaters, but at the same time it sometimes does appear to be good ole boy network. Nothing wrong with a good-ole-boy network if every airboaters is part of the network. ;) They don't openly exclude anyone.

I'd like to see the bylaws too.

Some of the voting at the meeting in a couple weeks is going to be about making changes to the bylaws. Our delegate has not brought that up because he/she (Adam & Dakota) have been kept in the dark about it. We're gonna just have to take a chance on that issue.

That's how it's going so far. Site Supporters, check the board area. The voting poll should be near the top of the list.

I have to say, this one sure is interesting. Brewster - you got some good ideas and if you are able, you oughtta attend the meeting as your club's delegate or even as a guest so you can get in there. I'd vote for ya!

don't get me wrong, I think it would be great for 1 collective voice to be heard at the State capitol. But if we are being asked to vote for someone, we should know who we are voting for.

Mood,
The new Bylaws will be presented at the Oct. 14th meeting to the delagates. They will not be voted on till the next meeting in 3 months which should give everyone time to revue.
Yes FAA has businesses that have delagates such as Diamondback airboats, Floral City airboats, GTO Airboats, Frankline Drives, WaterWalker, Sensenich, and many more. I don't think of these as "more or less small outfits".
I will spill one part of the new Bylaws which is 2 delagtes instead of 1. this will help with more comunication from more than one perspective.

Any questions just call or send me a PM.

Adam is the Delagate for SAO and I totaly TRUST him to properly inform everyone as best he can.

Bob Hoover

I guess the vote about the bylaws is for to change them or not, and then you'll spend till the next meeting coming up with some changes to have everyone approve or not.

On the business members - I've never seen an FAA memberlist. The only businesses I know of are the charter tour and hunt captains such as Big D and PW and so on.

Are those mfgr's really active in the FAA activities and direction? Way cool if they are!!! But if not, it'd be nice to get EVERYONE a little more involved.

I understand a question like what I'm about to ask is not really appropriate to be answered in the public forum, but on the other hand it's a question that any member should be able to freely get an answer to:

When can we read the current bylaws? And on average, when a motion or other official FAA action passes, what is the total of the the votes? i.e. how many votes happen?

I'll be able to find out the answer for the second question when I begin to attend the FAA meetings. As I understand it, anyone is allowed to observe quietly.

That's good news about the second delegate. Surely a step in the right direction. :) many of us still hold a goal of one member one vote. I'm one of them. But I'm not complaining about anything that opens communication and widens the playing field. A step in the right direction - It's difficult if not impossible to make such a huge change in one motion I guess.

I trust Adam too. But in order to be a true DELEGATE, he should not vote on anything that does not come before his constituents. Any voting ANY delegate makes where the members he/she represents has not heard is not a vote of the members but the vote of the one person.

Communication and organization and preparation are key!

Thanks Bob! :)

Hey ya'll,

Swampjet was at the picnic this past weekend, (he also brought our lobbyist Ms. Bonnie with him). You just can't say enough good about the two :thumbleft:
