Wink: A heads up on what is happening
August 30, 2007
As Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale, 954-525-3456, fliff.com) gears up for October's Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the theater is helping moviegoers wind down. The Reel Café makes its debut with a menu boasting more than 30 wines from around the world, available by the glass or the bottle. The newly renovated patio is designed for patrons to arrive early and sip their grape of choice before the screening, or to hang out after to savor the memory. (Or, if necessary, you can blot it out of your mind.) And coming to the cafe soon: an expanded food menu with sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Revive that hot and steamy relationship by spending a summer day outdoors! Try an outdoor excursion like an airboat ride through Everglades Holiday Park (21940 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, 954-434-8111). Get up close and personal with alligators and other wildlife on this one-hour tour that's sure to leave you sweaty ($21). There's nothing tastier than a cold beer on a hot summer day, so treat your sweet to a Native Lager draft ($4.50), a gator bites appetizer ($6.95) and live music at Alligator Alley (1321 E. Commercial Blvd., Oakland Park, 954-771-2220). For the ultimate ending, grab an outdoor table and people watch at the renowned Elbo Room (241 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-463-4615). Now that's true (Florida) love.
Dance Dance Revolution: Bell bottoms? Check. Platform shoes and groovin' threads? Check. Now you're set for Studio 518, a disco/funk dance-off on Sunday brought to you by Respectable Street (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, 561-832-9999). There's no cover and doors open at 9 p.m.
