WMA Closure

Darn ! Yall seeing that much water in the Glades?

Sounds like everything walking must be about to drown !

No 'canes yet this year. Whats goin on?

Scotty

I think they are kind of late on the closure ,water levels were much higher a month ago .
For the time being the closure only affects the glades however i wouldn't be surprised if the same were done to the adjacent Cypress.

ANOTHER GREAT JOB BY WATER MIS-MANAGEMENT !!!! THERE SO SCARED TO DEATH TO HOLD WATER LIKE THEY SHOULD BECAUSE GOD FORBID WE HAVE A GOOD RAIN AND THE LAKES AND CANALS GET A LIL FULL , SO THERE PUMPIN WATER SOUTH AS FAST AS THEY CAN SO SOME YANKEE IN DEL-BOCA-VISTA DONT HAVE WATER IN THERE FRONT EASEMENT ON THERE LAWN !!!!

YOU KNOW WHAT ID LIKE TO KNOW ? MY COMPANY WORKED 24 HOURS A DAY IN PALM BEACH AGG.. (THE DIRT AND ROCK PIT) JUST WEST OF THE L-8 CANAL IN WESTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY OFF SOUTHERN BLVD. I WORKED NIGHT-SHIFT 5:30PM TO 5:30 AM FOR 4 MONTHS DIGGING AND BUILDING THE MILES OF UNDERGROUND 78 FT. DEEP SLURRY WALL'S AROUND 2 OF THE GIANT EMPTY DIRT AND ROCK MINES THAT HAVE BEEN DUG OUT , AND THEN SOLD TO THE STATE FOR WATER HOLDING AND STORING AS PART OF "THE EVERGLADES PROJECT " WEVE BEEN DONE AND GONE SINCE FEB....AND THEY HAVE YET TO START USING THEM ....WHAT THE HELL ? THIS WAS SUPPOST TO BE THE ANSWER TO OUR DROUGHT SEASON AND THE ANSWER TO OVER FLOODING THE GLADES..

IF I HAD MY WAY ID BULLDOZE EVERY DAMN LEVY FROM JACKSONVILLE TO THE KEYS AND LET" ER RUN !!!!!! FLORIDA IS A FREE FLOWING MARSH AND WATER SYSTEM AND THAT WATER WOULD CUT THE GROUND IT NEEDS TO FLOW FREELY AND MOTHER NATURE WOULD FIX HER SELF IF THEM IDIOTS FROM ARMY CORE AND WATER MIS-MANAGEMENT WOULD LEAVE HER THE HELL ALONE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if it is tied in with this or not but they MAY have closed the locks on Kissimmee..I've heard the water has risen significantly recently.

Adam

Brewster....if you ever run for office, you've got my vote. That last paragraph tells it like it is IMO.

I thin Florida is pretty much already bought and paid for. Dont see anything positive in the future as far as anything outdoors or common sense goes.

Scotty

PS: Think its been that way for years too. Was a done deal even back in the 60s.

A quote from a friend says it all:

"Thanks to ENP and ACoE not doing MOD Waters the water is again too high in the Everglades to allow you to use them.
Thanks to the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) for their Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow litigation for closing the S12s and not allowing what little water out that could get out of the WCAs."

Corps studies lake-to-Miami pipeline - (09.23.2006)
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/search/con ... _0923.html

Theres a concept/ plan to plug the Miami Canal with a 10 ft diameter pipe and run the pipe from the EAA to Miami and pump excess water to Miami-Dade at 1100 Cubic feet per second. Also to cap the pipe/backfill the Miami Canal and over culverts in canal to maintain water supply deliveries, to allow natural flow over the top of the plugged canal.

Thus, Sheet flow of clean STA water would go back into the Everglades, while less than clean water would go to Miami Dade Water Supply.

Miami-Dade rep liked this idea very much. Consensus seemed to be near-total embracing by all of "outside the box" thinking.

Initial cost estimate $1 Billion to $1.5 Billion!!!!!

Enough said.

I belive that its like huntin season, now we have airboat season's. 3 months a year down here and that's all you get, but let's make them pay there yearly lease's for the camps so we can keep the pumps runnin. if you ask me there is alot of money being made somewhere and its not going to the effort of the glades its going to someone's pocket!!!! SO I THINK BIG RONNIE BERGERON WITH ALL THAT MONEY AND POWER WITH ALL THOSE INDORSEMENT'S SHOULD STEP UP AND THAT GOES FOR THE REST OF THE BIG WIG'S HERE IN FLORIDA!!!! In my life time with my father growing up in these glades it makes me sick to see all these assholes ruin it for my kids. I watch the water rise in a matter of 3 days it went up 7 inches. now tell me did someone leave a pump on somewhere????. we need to all stand up and individually put some law suit against water management and the army core or who ever is responsible and sue them for killing all the deer and other wildlife that they killed going back to the mercy hunts and make pay us the people back like they pay the indian's , and them sumbitches get away with everything. so keep riding no matter if the glades are closed or not. there not paying the leases and keeping up the glades like we do, SCREW THEM!!!!!!

West Side's right on all counts,

Everglades restoration is about water quantity/storage for urban use and money. The replumbing of the glades is the biggest scam ever sold to the public . Face it 1/2 of the original glades is either paved or drained for AG purposes and whats left is a wreck of an ecosystem.
The only way half ass restore water flow is to uproot all east/west roads south of Lake O ,and thats not going to happen.

What is the purpose restoring the glades if there is no wildlife?
Area 2 has been turned into a retention pond and the rest might follow.

Browns Farm wma ,

One of the better deer spots in palm beach county was turned into a STA and flooded . I've seen bobcats and every other kind of critter you can imagine there as well.
Total BS when you consider the 10's of thousands adjacent acres of sugar land that could've been used for the same purpose.

Mr Tom Shirleys gospel , great reading.

Mr Shirley advises that maintaining water depth greater than 18" for extended periods of time, results in destruction of the precious "Tree Island" habitat.

He has spent 40 years out there, and I think he knows what he is talking about.

The water managers in Florida sure don't give a rat sass about the Everglades.

Brewster,
I got some "gas money" for your bulldozer!
Let me know when you wanna do a "smash and grab" on some levees!

yeah,

It's been flooded for a few weeks now. Suprised the buttholes waited this long to close the WMA.

Our property with our house there is still flooded, (will probably never sell due to this reason). Been telling people down there for years that they will be part of the biggest "class action lawsuit" against the goverment is our history due to the flooding.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels and Alan Jackson sing about our fight, "Simple Man"

West Side they left the pumps on at the South rim of Lake Okeechobee.
That freakin fiasco they keep trying to pull. Trop. storm Ernesto reeaally
dumped alot of water in the Fisheating Creek area around Palmdale and a large percentage of it went right into the Big O. I understand that they have a program there to restore the lake bottom just like they did on Kissimee. In order to do so they are trying there hardest to keep the water as low as possible. They are the ones that killed it. All of the aquatic spraying they have done there. All settles to the bottom and stays there. A state funded program farmed out to a "licensed contractor". I wonder which politician owns it.
Just another example of a program that went sour and is still going.

I'll contribute too!!!

Truth of the matter is...as long as more people are moving here and adding to the tax base and our politicians and government agencies see more $$$ we "simple folks" are screwed.

Yeah DoubleJ,
The Dike at Port Myaca was compromised by Wilma, and they cant seem to get the slurry walls down, do to sand pockets sloughing off in the deep excavations.

I believe that all this water is from efforts to keep the lake as low as possible.

SO THEY DON'T LOOSE IT BIG TIME!
They have been trying to keep this on the down low I believe.

A.C.O.E. is catching heck, and so is SFWMD over massive dirty discharges on both the East and West coasts.

South is all they have left!
Close it down!
It will be quiet down there for a while.
Listen real close, and you can hear the Everglades dying.

See y'all in the Glades early 07
What's left of it anyways.

Yeah Cowboy it's nasty. Two years ago after the storms passed through,
the whole N.W. shore was a big choc. milk shake. I'm sure that's what they are pumping out. It's poison to an ecosystem.
