Ya'll ever have swap meets?

Cajun

Well-known member
Ya'll ever have like swap meets? Where folks bring their boats and stuff (boat stuff) for sale that they have laying around the shop or house? Just curious, and if so, does it get moved around , like one south, one central and so forth? Later, Cajun

Great idea, We all have things laying around from engine changes, rigging swaps etc., that we have collected over the years, we could get rid of. I'm for it.

I wasn't sure if there was anything like that going on or not. I know that alot of car owners ( old cars, hot rods and such ) do that and they have a heck of a turn out. Its not only for the airboat owners, it would be for some of those who wish they had one or want to own one, and might could even have a flyer or something to hand out addressing the SOUNDS that an airboat makes. Thats just an idea off the top of my head. It sometimes brings folks out of the wood work, and gives parents someplace to take some kids if nothing else is going on. Dealers could be invited and they could bring their newest addition to the sport. Heck might even get the dealers to donate towards the flyers and such. It just goes on & on . I was curious about it but I don't have the time to commit to doing it. ( Sorry have some medical issues here at home.) Let me know if there ever is one. Later Cajun

I know I have a few things laying around I could part with.
I have a big plastic box filled with Magneto's and Magneto parts. I have no use for. I was just thinking one mans Junk is anothers Treasure.
Why do you plan something matt and see what kind of interest we get.

It could be great to hook it into the juvenile diabetes river ranch shindig. There was a few more than 30 boats there last year and any extra attendees and revenue from booth setups fees would go to a good cause. Just a thought ..

Matt, if you can put something together and I will print them.
Just Email me or talk to me this weekend and we can do it.
We could address both issues, Sound & Swap Meet.
I think about 500 each would be NO problem.

Palm Beach club has a swap meeting on the weekend of their show on Saturday. Broward does not have an offical swap meet, but we usually let people who want to sell their boats or just display them put them in the show for free just so we have a lot of boats for folks to look at. Both shows are around the end of March. I will look for the exact dates and post them. Would be great to see all of you middle and upper state folks and your boats join us in south FL

OK, I will chime in now. There was a swap meet , about 2 years ago, here in citrus county in the Hernando area that was done by Paul McPherson (the guy at Hoffmans airboat shop who builds a bunch of the headers that are on the market). I personally have not been to south Fl. to the airboat shows down there so I can't comment on them. There IS talk to a small degree about doing an airboat show and swap meet up here in Citrus/Marion county area. I guess from this thread that there is some(?) interest in such. IF THIS IS TRUE, LET IT BE KNOWN NOW. Also , it will take a small Herd of SERIOUS VOLUNTERS to get this done! If you are Truly interested in being a part of this project, say so on here AND contact me soon. Target time frame is Aug./Sept. 06.

By the way, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL YALL !!!!! 8) 8) 8)

I tell you what like I said earlier I cannot obligate myself for anything cause of dealing with some medical things that keep me close to home with a loved one. But I can tell you this I'll be at the swap meet and I'll spread the word, I know 2 airboat owners that I have to do all their computor stuff cause they don't have one. Man this really sounds great. Swapjet hit it right on the head. It is a lot of work. And the projected date is a good one. It takes about a year to set up one of these shows. We start working on next years the day after this years. Broward club has been fortunate to have some very dedicated individuals who really step up to the plate and get everything organized... from where to have it, sponsors, venders, food, T-shirts, entertainment, security, etc. Plus, you need everybody you know and their families to work the event. But, it can be a great money maker for our cause. Most of the big manufactures come down for the Broward show. I am sure they would be interested in a show closer to home. One big lesson we learned. Give the kids something to do(FREE) like a big slide or bounce house and the parents will stay longer and spend more money on other things. If you guys are serious about doing this, I will help all I can. Probably won't be much more than some advice from experience, but I believe it would prove useful.

Muddyduck, I can see you've been there , done that. And I do need all the good advice I can get. I've been toying with this for years but nobody would make a commitment. Now it seems more people are not only wanting it , they NEED a show and meet up here. I've been in contact with Terri at ABW, and a few others for some time now but things like HURRICANES keep getting in the way. GTO Airboats is quite interested in this also. Of course I would love to have it in Citrus County, But I will admit, this part of the county lacks greatly in the way of (quality) hotel rooms. To bring people from outside the area, they would have to stay about 10-20 miles away. Looks like at this point, it will be most probably be in Ocala area. Nothing is in stone YET!! But any help and or advice is always welcome. You and anyone else can PM me or call. Thanks :wav:

It would be great to have it when the river ranch thing is here.. There would be a lot of people there and alot going on then. but any where would work needs to be central location. so start planing

It IS in the planning stage (in committee). I will be talking with more of the leaders after Thanksgiving. Please dont jump the gun yet. Like I said, contact me if you are serious, here or call me or PM me. :bigsmurf:

Location is very important, depending on what you want to do. If you just want to have a show/swap meet for airboat folks, there are a lot of options. Otherwise, you gotta go where the people are. We are lucky enough to have ours at Bass Pro Shop. I believe there is one in Orlando, that is a possibility. The trick is start now calling people and getting commitments. Somebody at that store is in charge of promotions that deal with just this type of thing. Maybe a Wal-Mart. Hook up with one of the FLW tour stops. There just are not enough airboat folks to really make money. (If making money is your goal.) I could get long winded with details, but I'll hold off to see what happens after swampjet gets a chance to talk to everybody after Thanksgiving.
