Your Opinion on Bangsticks

Cajun

What do some of ya'll think the ideal length would be on bangsticks?
( How about it Gatorstick ) Reason being is after mounting to 5' sticks with handles and power head these are close to 6' long and look to be a bit cumbersome. Would the finish product being closer to 5' be more useful? Most folks have about 30" reach and then 5' stick, shouldn't that be plenty to bang with the gator up close to the boat? The old one I had was only 4' and I thought that was too short, so thats why I made the ones I do longer. Just thought I would ask some opinions, always trying to improve to suit the folks. Thanx, Cajun

Thats what I am looking for is opinions. So another foot would be good for you. Thanx,

The finished product of the ones I build are close to 6' , they are about 68-69", I was just curious if sticks that long were ever a bother or if that is about the size that folks are comfortable with. Thanx for your input. Later, Cajun

Here is the trick where hands on makes a difference.

Every piece of equipment should float. Over time, it all goes over the side and you CAN"T go to Walmart to replace it. While I don't mind selling the same guy another $125 stick, if you don't want to shell out the $$$ the second time or have to use a pole to beat the lights out of a gator boatside because your bangstick is on the bottom, make it float.
THis applies to your harpoon & gaff as well.

Same for your airboat. If you're working a big gator, work him off the bow as it keeps the boat centered. Be careful of your sliding sideways to make a stick. Know the weedline you're about to fly into as there are stumps, poles, rocks ect. If you kill a big gator, center him in your boat and make sure your passengers are balanced and stay that way for the trip in. Plan before you sink. I carry hand held flares & flash lights, shot flares, strobes, mirror and radio. Keep your cell in a plastic bag.

Every year I see or hear of a few who went "swimming with the gators." It's the dolphins you're supposed to be swimming with.

Hope everyone does their part to have a safe gator season and help protect the children poodles & young ladies from these slimy, horrible animals!!

I use the noodles kids wear in pools to keep my gear floating. I bought my orange noodle at publix, painted it orange , cut a foot or so off it, duck taped it to the pole and it works great.....
