your opinion on uhmw is requested

Hoping that the combined experience of this forum can give me some insights. The price of an 18' x 5' sheet of 3/8" uhmw here in Utah is $700.00 for re-grind and $900.00 for virgin. The local plastics supplier says that there is virtually no difference between re-grind and virgin in my application. Do you guys think it is worth saving a couple of hundred dollars for reprocessed UHMW or should I stick with virgin? Is the friction any less on virgin as opposed to re-grind? How about the durability? It is also cheaper to buy it in 10' lenghts if I choose to butt the the sheets together. Thanks for your thoughts.

airfan,

My personal preference is the virgin....never got much life out of the reformulated stuff.
A lot of people use it, so it might not be worth the diff in price. Probably depends on the type of running you do.
Last time I bought a 14' by 8' piece it was less than $400, but that was a year ago.
I think I would shop around for a better deal!
