Re: Want to start new build, need advice

I don't think I would build a boat 60 inches wide. I like my boats upright. Especially in deep water. You have to remember your center of gravity is now sticking up in the air compared to down low with the mud motor.

Re: Want to start new build, need advice

60 inches on the bottom is good for a mud boat but a little too narrow to deal with torque roll of engine and prop. Can you bring it out to at least 7 foot?

Re: ISO lycoming o360 or larger

Yes sir. Only if it is a wide deck case. The crank hits the inside of the case on the narrow deck. The bore is the same. The pistons are the same. The rings are the same. The rocker arms are the same. Crank, rods, cylinders, push rods and tunes are different. I learned something today. I always tho...

Re: ISO lycoming o360 or larger

So your telling me a 0320 is the same bore as a 0360? And you can slide a 0360 crank in a 0320 case, just bolt them up?

Re: ISO lycoming o360 or larger

Your idea and my idea of easy are a lot different. 0360 is a bigger bore than 0320. Cases are not interchangeable. Rods are longer in 0360 and will work in a 0320 but cheaper to just put bigger pistons in it.
If you want a 180 buy the 180. In the long run it will be a lot less headaches.

You will need motor mounts and cones along with rear motor mounts. Here is a link to classic airboat. The rear mount NormanClay has. You might ask him about the motor mounts.

Re: Lycoming 0290 magneto identification

I believe it's a Slick magneto. My personal experience with them is when they are right they are good and last a long time without doing anything to them. When they do break down it's time to go another direction. They need special tools to work on them and are more tedious to set up.

sounds like you need new neighbors. Hopefully inlet screen was problem. If not turn on electric when it starts to stumble.

Never heard of any using constant speed prop on airboat so governor is unneeded. Prop should bolt to flange. No adaptor needed.

Are you looking at the switch type murphy gauge? Murphy makes quality stuff for sure, but there are times I don't want my motor shutting off because of a safety switch.

Re: Best prop for my 0-360 AV

I have a 72 inch excaliber on a11 foot boat and it goes where I want. But it has a 0470 on it. Also have a 10 foot boat with a 66 inch 3 blade Razor and have been stuck in some real nasty stuff a couple times. But it has a pe60, if I had your 180 I don't think it would have been a problem. Other tha...

Re: Continental GO-300

Never saw a go300 only a o300. There were a few around and a nice sweet running motor. Problem was weight to horsepower made running the O 320 or other 4 cyl a better choice. The GO-300 you have would probably be a sweet running motor on a airboat and defiantly better than a one without gear reducti...

Re: Gpu cylinders

No the 0200 cylinders will not fit. They are the same size as the PE60 only aircraft so the intake is on the bottom. A lot of people are converting to 047 cylinders but it takes some more parts than just cylinders and I would want to know what shape bottom is in before i went that route. Look around...

Re: Laying wire questions

I agree a properly built cage is a critical safety component, but I can't grasp how it would be safer to have no wire verses wire only running horizontally.
