Lets hear about your first boat

Piece of crap Alaska Airboat was my first one. Thought it was great till I bought one built by Skip Olsen in Fbx. These high cab boats and Alumatech hulls rock. I now own a marine business and we build them in Palmer. Skip is the man! Bk https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190130/f8aa560a0d009c5484ec...

Re: The dreaded question...

1 mph on ground hauling a load and 2 mpg on river commuting, in deep water and fast current.
502 BBC, 4500# boat, 18' Alumatech w/5 person cab. It's all about comfort and the ultimate hunting platform for Alaska.
Cruising 30-32 mph.

Re: Ugh! Box dilemma! HELP!

Go 2.68, more snap too. A little more torque roll possibly. Go Stinger, awesome boxes!
Put more pitch in it and you will likely get more push out of it at lower rpm as well.

Re: Ch3 torque spec help?!

Absolutely install it. Your gambling if you install your old plate again.
Verify the spacers are correct. If not, they could be bending the drive plate causing your cracking issues.

Runners on hull?

No, its cause your hull is so short. Ice is terrible to run. Get sideways a bit and smack something solid and your now sideways or upside down with a prop-strike, etc... Add a set of uhmw strakes on the hull like your suggesting and your increasing your odds of flipping it. Iwould NOT recommend runn...

Re: Alaskan hunting Mini

Thin layer of water under the hull will freeze you solid when you stop. Park it on some branches or 2x4. My big boat moves at idle, and it weighs 4000lbs. +. Look forward to the day when you can run the slough a few times and get a feel for the boat in its intended application. Sliding on snow isa b...

Re: Alaskan hunting Mini

Put your power plant in and see if it pushes across snow. So much time and energy into this, would be nice to run it before you continue to trick it out. You need !ow end push to run those tight lil slough, snap to keep you out of the brush, and tight turns all at slow speed. I don't know enough abo...

Re: Alaskan hunting Mini

Ok, big lake might be open. That could be handy if the docks were still in too.

We can PM on the side for my concers/thoughts. I am all in for trying new things. I'm down this direction if I can help when you decide to run her.

Re: Alaskan hunting Mini

My thoughts....
I want you to succeed but I more concerned with about a dozen things that can hurt you in your design and set-up.
The lakes are frozen here as well, Palmer.
Where are you planning to test this next week?

Look forward to more pics and info.
Interior has a muddy/swampy typesetting vs out rocky/boulder laden streams of South central.
Love to meet you anytime your down this way.

Have you met Skip Olsen in Fbx yet?
Keep up the good work!

Re: Alaskan hunting Mini

I don't think your hull is deep enough of wide enough. With it being so light the hull cannot be very thick.
Correct me if I'm wrong, just looking at your pics.
Where do you plan to run this boat? Location in the state matters.
What bottom protection are you using?
