Re: REAL!!!! GPU Continental cam specs

For years I tried and could never get the RPM's out of my GPU that I though it should be turning. Talking to SpeedWheelie about it, he said something to the effect that the GPU (at least some of them) used a cam shaft that just wouldn't let the engine turn up over about 2,600. With that in mind, I'd...

Re: Motor idles, but dies when throttled......?

Sounds like its time to go through it as the main jets are plugged, but before you tear into it have you checked the mag(s), spark plugs, fuel filter(s)? Simple stuff first

Fuel
Igntion

Re: 220 gpu trying to 'deisal'

Your idle may be set too high; With the throttle plates not closing off enough, you can draw higher amounts of fuel into the engine where its ignited due to high temperatures and/or carbon deposits.

Having grown up in Fl. I remember always associating "New York City" being the same as "New York State" when the reality could be the same as saying everything South of Alligator Alley is New Cuba and all that North is Florida. Folks up here have been trying off and on for decade...

Re: Source(s) for PE piston rings?

Try Speed wheelie. Tom Jeffords or Gary Barber. Outlaw aircraft engines. Thanks! I've dealt with Tom and would have been my first call, but again when my phone died, so did years worth of contacts & info. :angry5: As soon as I can measure the bore & piston, I'll order a set. Looking at the ...

Thanks, I remembered from Tech school the taper and a few other things, and the ring with two dots was "up" but as I started thinking......well, you know what happens.

Kind of odd ring arrangement (I think)

While looking at the jug assemblies that came off my PE90 I noticed the top ring had two little divots drilled on the top side of the ring: Does that indicate oversize? Also and this is what really struck me as odd the top ring was iron and the second ring was chrome....and I believe the oil control...

Source(s) for PE piston rings?

Well I needed a spare Jug for my PE90 and I had one that was all but spankin' new.....that is until mice decided it made a spacious home. So I've salvaged what could be and now I need a set of piston rings (std. I think) preferably Chrome as that's what the others are, but regular will work r...

Absolutely Uf-Nucking Believable :banghead: I've long suspected that the terrorists knew what they were doing when they sent that last plane into the Pentagon instead of the Capitol Building. Oops, sounds like the drivers were having more fun than the passengers. Oh and the alligator infested waters they almost went into. What, one our two alligator attacks a year in Florida while 40,000 Americans killed by cars each year. I'll take my chances in the marsh any day with those odds. Car c...

Quick question on turns:

Which way is it you DO NOT turn under idle speed? I should know, did know, and now am second guessing myself. Is it you don't turn left (where the stern is pushing to the right while the bow is going left) or the opposite? I know my boats limitations, but need to help my nephew who's going to be get...

Re: Vw or snowmobile

Well the snow mobile engine & drive would work well, and has a very good power to weight, but the trade off is noise and the smell/residue of burning oil is unpleasant. The VW is in-expensive, reliable, and getting the proper prop will likely be easier than the 2 cycle....course it's heavier, bu...

I've been pondering an oil filter system for the PE/GPU engines: certainly filter bases are in-expensive and can be ordered from NAPA....even a simple by-pass or passive system would have to be better than just the screen.

Re: Vern-o-therm and oil pressure?

Hey did you ever find a solution to your problem No never really did. The engine only has one, while the manual shows several in diffrent locations/items depending on model. I pulled the one on it apart: it was rusty, had water inside, but wasn't stuck. They have a 15/16" rubber piston (think ...

put the full quart in it, buy it by the gallon if you can afford it. I pulled a '75 F100 out of the woods, rebuilt the carb, changed the oil & filter with a quart of Lucas added: drove it 1200 miles home with the low oil pressure light coming on intermittently; pulled the engine when we got it h...

Obviously the paint would have to be removed at the joints for brazing/welding, but I suspect they could be color matched with the standard industrial paints. http://www.wheatland.com/electrical-conduit/color-coded-emt-conduit http://www.wheatland.com/images/products/color-conduit-product_photo-LG.j...

Wood Prop alignment

If the tip are not within 1/8" run-out, can that be adjusted? A rough check looks like it's almost 3/4" out. As soon as the ice/snow storm stops and I can clear the deck I'll put a dial indicator to obtain an exact measurement. My thoughts were possibly torqueing the hub on the one farthes...

Re: am i just being OCD about my oil pressure?

If oil pressure is normal when cold and drops when hot it is usually an indication of bad bearings. When oil heats up and changes viscosity it is thinner and can slip out from around the bearings due to clearances of bearings and crank or rods which causes a drop in pressure. Might be a good time t...
