Whats the deal with the spacer? I have just rebuilt a 74 472 into a 500 with one of martys DD2 cams. I have a Quadrajet and an aluminum intake. What do you gain with the spacer?

Make sure you do not need a primer over the sanded gelcoat or if aluminum, over your chromate base. Inter-lux has a wide range of paints. A lot of large yachts use a similar set up. Using and exhaust box with a discharge at the waterline for when the vessel is maneuvering at slow speeds and than a discharge under the water behind a cowling when at cruising speed. A light sanding to profile the metal and then clean and degrease as needed. Zinc chromate is a good option for a first coat of primer.
