Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors
That was very unfortunate what happened to Mert. Mike took me for a ride on the maiden voyage of Mert's boat in Gopher Slough. It was a nice running boat.

Re: Cylinder head Intake port size requirement for LS 427
I think 2200 RPMs is the maximum RPM for that prop. If you plan to turn the motor at 6000 at WOT, you need to use at least a 2.68 ratio. Especially with a 4 blade. A 4 blade SW will put significant load on the motor.

Re: Cylinder head Intake port size requirement for LS 427
My Father in Law has been building conventional SBC for strip and dirt track for decades and is pretty notable in East Texas thru Tennessee area. Last year brought him down for his first airboat experience and he got to experience first hand the constant loads that we put on our rigs. He has since ...

Re: Cylinder head Intake port size requirement for LS 427
Thanks for the input CMB...… So back to the original question …. I believe the stock LS7 head intake runners are 260cc with a 70cc combustion chamber resulting in a 11:1 compression ratio. What if any should I deviate from that may result in over all performance. Will be running a carbureted set up...

Re: Cylinder head Intake port size requirement for LS 427
Its a New Dart LS NEXT steel block, standard deck, 4.125 Siamese bore, clearance for a 4.100 stroke, sleeves extend down from the holes 0.375. So yeah I guess it would be considered a LS7 hybrid. Compstar 4" Crank and 6.125" rods 12 degree Diamond pistons - dish TBD once heads are sourced...

Re: Cylinder head Intake port size requirement for LS 427
Currently researching and planning a LS 427 build, I have the block and rotating assembly sourced and now researching cylinder heads. Expecting to turn 6k RPM. As a base number I believe the stock truck 6.0L lQ9 intake port is 210 cc Most aftermarket aluminum 7.0L heads have the large square intake...

You need to put blue lock tite on those bolts. Vibration from the prop loosens stuff over time.

Re: ls water sensor question
The temperature sender for the wiring harness goes in the front of the driver side head. The temperature sender for the instrument panel goes in the passenger side of the water pump. You also need to run crossover tubes between the heads.

Re: 502 prop help
A warp drive is pretty much the worst prop for pushing on the hill. An 82 inch 3 blade wide or super wide prop will push better on the hill.

Found one locally for 2k obviously it would have to be gone through as it has over 90k miles on it but from everything know I'm assuming a purpose built motor would be any motor that makes most of its power in lower rpms I know I'm still green with the whole airboat thing I'm learning as I go I kno...

Re: 6.0l LS2 rebuild looking for more power
I run my motor between 5800 and 6200 at WOT with an upgraded valve train. With your WOT at this RPM, what does your cruise end up at? Also, what Computer are you running and what gas do you run on? Here we have 87, 89, and 91/92 octane available and we are tuned to run on 87/89. Also, you asked if ...

Re: 6.0l LS2 rebuild looking for more power
You could also put on some LS3 heads and an LS3 intake. With the proper cam, this would pick up some HSP. Just comes down to how much money you want to spend.

Remember that I have 55 more cubic inches. Also I run my motor between 5800 and 6200 at WOT with an upgraded valve train.

Re: 6.0l LS2 rebuild looking for more power
What RPM are you planning to run the motor when at WOT? Are you OK with a choppy idle? What gear ratio and prop are you using? I don't necessarily have a WOT target for the build, but rather a target for cruise RPM around 3200-3400 RPM. I am OK with a choppy idle. Right now I am running a 2.68 Stin...

Re: 6.0l LS2 rebuild looking for more power
This is the year 2019. There is nothing wrong and minimal impact on longevity when running a properly built LS from 5500 to 6500 at WOT. The factory LS2 in the Corvette redlines at 6600 to 6800. Make sure you have a good top end and a proper tune. Running an LS at 5100 WOT with a 2.3 is actually har...

Re: Gearbox power reduction question
Ya this LS stuff is a bit challenging with so many tunes and cam grinds available. Im just trying to figure out how many blades I can spin with x given torque/hp Based on my experience, roughly 550 HSP will spin a 4 blade 83.5" R. This doesn't mean build an engine that makes 550 HSP at 6200 RP...

Re: Gearbox power reduction question
Power loss or thrust loss? Are you comparing a 3 blade to a 4 blade using a 2.68 or are you comparing different ratios to a 2.68? Trying to understand what you are asking.

Re: Asking for opinions here
How many RPMs do you plan to run at WOT? This answer will help determine the gear ratio. Also a 4 blade is a better pusher prop than a 3 blade if you have the HSP to turn it.

That 540 must be making some HSP to turn a prop that big.
