Re: Thermostat or no thermostat
since 1990 i have not put themostats i my boats. instead, i plum the motor with 3/4 inch aluminum pipe(tubes). i make my own radiators now, so i use the same 3/4 for outlets an the radiators(used to just make adaptors to fit. every one(almost) says this won't work. i have over 60 boats out running w...

Re: Primer for a glass hull?
you won't need primer for these low grade enamels. for not much more you can use gelcoat. you can brush it or spray it. would need pressure pot/ with large gun. don't forget to use wax in the mix.

don't know the object you are speaking of, but you will have to take it off anyway. so once its off, take it to a welder. have him weld the crack and plug hole shut, redrill the hole and tap it. no matter what it is, if you can clean it, you can weld it. think about it. harold

replacing a stringer is a lot like fixing a clogged toilet. getting started is the hardest part.

Re: Cage wire
try to get 12 gauge wire. the home depot stuff is usually 14 gauge. it will work, but, boat vibrations sometimes breaks the wire. tice hardware used to carry 14. (ft. myers)

Re: 4.3 DD Prop
the problem with your 262 hp engine is that it makes that hp at 5000 rpm's. if you are going direct drive, cut your hp figure in half since you will be turning half or less rpm's. probably something like a 66X32 i would guess. good little cruising engine. won't burn much fuel. make a good frog boat....

Re: one more prop question
i torqued mine the same BUT, two years later while removing the prop i striped the allen bolt. did all the who dean e tricks, but wound up drilling out the countersunk head. was a scary thing. for the final part used die grinder with a 1/2 inch stone. worked. head popped off and then i slipped the h...

Re: Prop spacing from back board
you have lots of options besides moving the engine stand and drilling yet more holes in an already weak spot in about all airboats. move gas tank, beer cooler, gas cans, fat riders up front, and so on. the closer to the back of the boat you get your weight, the more likely you will get to see if you...

Re: What prop for duel port 1600cc VW (50-60hp)??
several years ago i saw one of the boys in 3-A running a vw reduction. he was running with the big boys. his reduction was fron the older VW bus/camper rear axle. its something you might want to explore if you are going to be running the bad rough. as for which side to hook your prop for direct driv...

Re: Round or square?
one of the old timers (Truman K) who passed away about 10 years ago ran round pipe. he was left handed and built his rig with right hand steering. ran a small block ford with home made 2/1 gear box. had good luck with it. the problem is figgering out the angle of the cuts with round pipe. not that i...

make sure your front brace is fastened from the starter end to block. might need to build or buy a new bracket.
