Re: Ecotec 2.4 v/s 0360

Are you running on private lease, cause I know most of that is public/wma, we had the majority of the Mississippi/Dutch bayou area leased up from I-10 to reserve canal to Bayou Tent from the early 80s to the mid 90s before the state took it from under us.

So I'm assuming you're running the tickfaw/Amite river or Maurepas area then ?

Re: Lycoming 0290 G Engine For Sale

I remember my first boat, 11x6 airgator hull, 0290 with a 5-blade warp drive, single rear operator, steel flex, was a great boat and performed well with one person and minimal gear, just seems like parts for those are getting harder and harder to come by these days

Re: Mini Motor Question/Big Enough?

Yeap, my dad use to weld two sheets right down the center, grind it down and fill in and then grind down until it looked as if it was one solid sheet and then he would weld two eyes on both sides of the boat and use a come-a-long hooked up to each eye and start pulling his sides up to the desired si...

Re: Mini Motor Question/Big Enough?

Just have to keep your' setup at light as possible, carry just the minimal necessity in gear, I'd look at one of Chucks Mini Pro hulls and do a single rear operator with a single passenger seat on the floor board setup, for the horsepower to weight ratio you get with these rigs when setup right they...

Re: Mini Motor Question/Big Enough?

I had the 5 blade warp drive on my 12ft alum 582 Rotax setup, I could crank up and run dry ground with me and all my gear, food, ice chest guns and supplies and tools to run to the camp, probably about 300-350lbs including myself and with three coats of slick em on the bottom and 8" up the sides, cr...

Re: Mini Motor Question/Big Enough?

And here was another guy I hunted with that had basically the same setup as my except with the 583 on a 12ft glass Spyda hull, and it ran dry ground with two people easily

Re: Mini Motor Question/Big Enough?

If you keep the boat light enough it'll work just fine, I ran a 12ft alum Scully's built hull, had 1/8" bottom with .100" sides with slick bottom with a 582 rotax/gear reduc and a 5-blade warp drive and I could stop and go on flotants with that boat, was damn near a point and go boat with just one p...

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

I'd say get a mudboat, cause if you don't own land or have a lease that allows airboats to be ran on the property, you're gonna be asking for trouble

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

If your not gonna put polymer, at least put a couple of coatings of quickslick or steel flex, whatever they call it, I'd never own another airboat without polymer, I have 1/4" on the bottom and 8" up the sides

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

You should get a mud boat then, just the thought that someone would even attempt to run from covington in lake Ponchatrain and run across and through pass manchac and through lake maurepas in a 12x7 airboat shows your true lack of common sense

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

It runs good, just me and my gear it runs anywhere I wanna go, I can run it all day on 30 gallons of gas, and I always run 93 pump gas with a STP fuel booster, it'll brake free at 2100 rpms, I barely ever have to hit the sprayer system, but I run simple green out the sprayer, I have 3/16" bottom wit...

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

Well technically since it's a mapped navigable waterway, you can run down the river itself, just can't go anywhere off of the river, basically you can run up and down the river itself, can't run up on either side of the bank, I'd you don't own land or lease land where you have written permission to ...

Re: First Hull - rigging

I already recommended it to you once, if you ever run in any sort of heavy cypress swamp down here, full cage, you think it's a coincidence that you never see any airboats in south La without a full cage ?

Re: airboat regs - louisiana

Gotta be careful on both the west and east pearl river, they're both on the pearl river WMA, and then lake Borgne and lake Catherine out by the rigolets runs the border for Biloxi Marsh WMA, airboats are off limits on state owned Wildlife Management Areas...

Re: First Airboat = Hull

If you're gonna be running in any sort of heavy cypress timber swamp like anywhere near or around the pearl river you're gonna want a full cage, and a polymer bottom.
