Re: Oil temp issue

You have a blowby problem, ring lands are worn on the pistons, and or egg shaped cylinder bores, I would suggest a proper leak down test.

Re: Porting cyclinder heads lyc/cont

We used a flow bench to get best results on a mock cylinder, then matched all the rest to it, sad as hell with all of that plus many other mods, the engine was never truly wrung up, I even doubt the rings got broke in.

Re: New to Airboats need some advice

If you use the search function, there are good combinations to build the strongest and snappiest DD engines to run as strong as a stock aircraft, however the weight difference is key due to iron block and cooling system weight of water.

Re: Cont 470

Measure the stub shaft diameter and length to mounting face, slide a piece of same size pipe into it, long enough that the cover plate holds it in place. If no size pipe available, take solid aluminum dowel and have it machined.

Re: case pressure...

Well, most likely it doesn't have anything to do with case pressure, vs either too deep of the champher where oring seats under cylinder base, or the thru stud wasn't sealed correctly when case halves were assembled.

Good call, might just need a teardown, cleaning, blast the distributor blocks and check for cracks, and reassembly.

Remove the plug wire harness caps from mags and check for corrosion and or carbon tracing at insulators or from distributor block to case.

Re: Oil pump for Continental 0470 GPU needed. Does anyone have one or know where I can find one?

It is not likely pump, add a washer or 2 to pressure relief valve spring, if that doesn't change things when hot, bearings are worn out.

Mild cam is not what you want, an rv cam is what you want or in search feature there is plenty of combinations to read up on.

Re: Has anyone found a way to grease steering cables?

I've done the similar thing, clamp a hose over mounting threads long enough to clear stem, remove the dust boots first, elevate this end and put a funnel in end of hose, make sure you cant knock funnel out with cable stem full travel, fill funnel with atf or as above mmo, cycle cable in and out or u...

Re: O540 10:1 piston or leave it stock?

If fresh overhauled, no need to scuff anything, be sure rings stack into same bores they came from, they'll be fine. The sky Tec has a weak spot, fine for planes that don't do hot starts, I'd suggest a Norman clay setup. Also have the impulse coupler (s) and dog pins inspected for wear, leading caus...

Re: What MOTOR and HULL do I have?

I'd run avgas, car gas will hammer the ring lands, also crack the cylinder heads. Where did you buy the boat from?

Re: What MOTOR and HULL do I have?

Well, it's not a 125 gpu case and it's not a 125-D2 otherwise there would be a breather at right rear of case. It very well could be a 150, the hull is hard to tell, too many different styling ques.

They are forged units, will last a long time, well worth the investment!

Re: Step hull vs straight hull

It all depends on how they are designed, I know of light riveted step hulls that can go just as fast sideways as forward, sleds tend to crow hop if too much bend in transom kickup, it all really boils down to the builder.

Re: Step hull vs straight hull

Step hulls transfer to a plane faster due to less area in water to break free, a well designed step hull will run soely on the step at speed, with that chances of blow over is reduced but does happen, flat bottoms take more to get on plane.

Well I can tell that the upgrades have considerably affected browsing and navigating, the ads are slowing up page loading and entering text gets backed up, typing this i wrote 3 words and it took 15 seconds to load them. I guess Gerald has a point, get some stars under my avatar.

From my understanding it is the deer headcount on the levees that determines the areas closing regulation.
