Re: Aluminum hull refit

Been using weldwood contact cement ever since I was trained to 35 years ago, you can knock out rivets on a boat that old and still have to pry the material apart, just redid a boat that was built prior to my employment at Don Davis' shop.

Re: Suggestions on "temporary" oil for 220GPU?

Run it but just have in mind that the springs will eventually fail, not all at once but here and there, they are easy enough to change on engine with compressed air holding valves shut (STAY CLEAR OF PROP OR REMOVE IT) if you get it running good, enjoy! Seems you know enough to get you back to the l...

Re: Suggestions on "temporary" oil for 220GPU?

Ok, I watched your videos, the rust on the valve springs will eventually cause them to break, I would highly suggest you pull all 6 cylinders, have them overhauled, may have to take them out to plus .015 if they aren't already, i bet cylinder bores are pitted, have springs replaced, put a set of 6405...

Re: Suggestions on "temporary" oil for 220GPU?

Add 1 qt of transmission fluid to current oil, get it hot before you drain it off then run a oil change with 15w40 and 1 qt trans fluid, let it run till it gets hot, drain it while hot and blended, the detergent will allow it to mix in, run aeroshell after that.

Re: Aluminum hull refit

Roger that. I was told to put steelflex on before poly to help to keep corrosion to a minimum. It came from a guy with a riveted hull. His reason was because his bottom is 6061 alloy and keep the corrosion at bay. Steelflex is a bottom coating, it does not flex as stated, the elastomeric roof coati...

Re: Aluminum hull refit

It will seal the bottom, all riveted hulls leak in one way or another, the roof sealant wicks into the seams and rivet pockets.

I like john's comment, they also make a 390 4 brl that would work and if you go with a 500 get the ultra it has the adjustable air bleeds and emulsion
My bad, meant the 390 4V not the 350 2V

Re: Aluminum hull refit

If the poly is in need of replacement, strip it off, tighten or replace rivets, roll a good coat of elastomeric roof coating on hull, replace poly or reinstall poly, a properly shaped chisel and punch in a rivet gun is best way to shear off buck tails and drive out rivets.

Re: Carb ls

any CFM Calculator you prefer will readily show that to be the case. Simple enough to do. 6.0 L = 366 Cubic Inch at 100% volumetric efficiency is only 318 CFM at 3,000 RPM. 350 CFM is the standard recommendation for DD 350 SB engines. 450 and 500 CFM carbs usually come into play above 400 cubic inc...

Re: Stainless or No ?

No real need for stainless anymore, unless they open up south of the loop or you plan to run oyster beds, check, you might consider removing the backup plates, but that would be alot of work.

Likely the chrome sheetmetal caps getting distorted, I'd buy some aftermarket locking style nuts and not have to worry about it again.
