2:1 vs 2.3:1 belt drive
Just curious about which performs better. Pros/cons. Good/bad. Whatever. Just looking for opinions. I have a SBC 560hp/560t. Currently running 2:1. 78'' whisper tips 2.0 on a 15x7 aluminum hull if any of that matters. Thanks for any input.

Re: Belt drive replacement belt
I agree with you 100%. Blackhawks are probably the best belt made but they are tough on century drive gears. I didn’t mention that because I didn’t want to start a big argument about which belt is better. Opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one. And this is just mine.

Re: Belt drive replacement belt
First off I never said it was a blackhawk belt. And I did pay slightly more than the $150 that I said it cost. I couldn’t remember the exact cost. And it was four years ago so I’m sure it is more now. But my point was it was by far the best price I could find on a belt. I was just trying to help a f...

Re: Skip White performance 427?
I have a Skip White 427. 560T/560HP. It's on a 15' hull. 2:1 belt drive. Three blade whisper tip 2.0. I turn it at 5000 RPM's.It definitely goes where my 350 wouldn't. I have about 20-30 hrs. on it so far. My hour meter recently quit working so I don't know the exact hrs. It had a small problem with...

Re: Belt drive replacement belt
Call the belt store in Lafayette, La. (337-235-9736) I think it's a 1280-80-127. I live near Lafayette and picked mine up but I'm sure they would ship you one. Was less than $150 if I remember.

Re: 427 SBC
Well like I said. 78” three blade whirlwind whisper tips 2.0. I turn it at 5000rpm’s and I’m right at the 17.5-18 pitch mark. I was running a zz4 before with the same prop. It was on about 13.5-14 pitch mark at 5000rpm’s. My boat is 15 x 7. It will definitely go where my 350 couldn’t. I’m pretty sat...

Re: 15x7 engine choice
I replaced my engine this summer. Not knowing exactly what my old engine was making I do know for sure I gained over 100hp and 100lbs/t. I guesstimated the old engine was about 400hp. New engine dynoed at 560/560. I'm somewhat disappointed in the money I spent to get the results I got. So in my opin...

Re: power plant frame- is it safe? do they break?
I had something go through my prop totally destroying it. Debris went in all directions [sideways and up and down. not forward or back] but the cage or prop guard contained most of it. So I would definitely not stand on the side of the boat in line with the prop. Also if you are turning the engine t...

350 ZZ4. Not stock. HP unknown. Guestimated around 400. 3 blade 78” whisper tips 2.0 pitched at about A17.5 turning 5000-5100 rpms. 2:1 century belt drive.

Re: Car motor longevity
I change my oil and filter about every 20 hrs. Use a quality oil and filter. Change fuel filters. I have aluminum heads. Fast idle engine until it comes up to temp. I never push a cold engine. Never run it hot either. My engine is rated for 5500 rpm's. I'm pitched at 5000. Stay within your engine's ...

Re: Car motor longevity
I've seen some go over 2000 hours and I've seen some that didn't make 2 hours. A lot of factors lead to longevity. How it's built. How it's driven. And how it's maintained. I would say a factory crate engine or a decent custom build with proper maintenance and keeping it within the safe rpm operatin...

Re: Running Hot
You said you've changed water pump, radiator etc. I'd be willing to bet you have air in the system. I know several times I thought mine was burped and it wasn't. Had to work a little harder to get it. Seems funny it was good one day and suddenly started running hot. I would also put a thermostat bac...

Re: radiator distance from prop
I had the exact same problem with my sbc 350. After much trial and error I figured out I was running the wrong size pulleys on my water pump and on the harmonic balancer. I guess it was the wrong ratio. You would think an engine turning 5000 rpm's would move enough water but apparently it wasn't. Af...

Re: Help with cam
I really hadn't thought of changing the gear ratio. In south Louisiana almost everyone runs a 2:1 on just about every sbc and bbc's. About the the only time you see a different ratio is on an ls engine. And don't even mention running a gearbox down here. I've only ever seen one in my lifetime. Stric...

Thanks for the input guys. I took the r blades off and went back to water walker falcons. I just don't think I had enough motor to turn those wide blades. I find it run better with the falcons. I'm still looking at different cams and I'll probably try a cam swap just to see what it does. I agree GM ...

There is only 3 grease fittings on a century belt drive. Even century's website says there is only 3. Two upper, one lower.

Re: Trying to figure out what exactly I have
I ran a set of whirlwind blades in a water walker/powershift hub for years. Worked fine except when it was time to adjust them. They fit really tight in the hub and were hard to move them. The blades did fine otherwise until something went through them and they blew up. I replaced them with water wa...

Re: Thermostat or restrictor plate?
Definitely sounds like air in system. If everything is working right with no air in system your temperature will swing five or so degrees under normal conditions. Of course if you are running harder your temp will most likely go up. But it won't swing twenty degrees suddenly. I had trouble with air ...
