Re: 400 sbc build

Putting money in your current foundation is a bad idea. JMO- Put a pencil to it. Talking reliability. Not feasible. She breaks then you have these new parts to start on the bottom end where you should be starting first. Not heads first, bottom end first. Doesn't matter the RPM you plan to turn. Bott...

Possibly the hull tuning is a whole different topic and I would like to visit with you more about this new engine of yours.

PM me your phone # if you want. I would like to visit with you about your new engine. :-)

Is your new engine an old school 434cid/23 degree SBC, carbureted and going on a ride boat?

Re: Prop question

Raising the rear of the engine should raise the nose of the boat.

Porpoising

Get you atleast a 4' straightedge and a bubble level. Start with the hull. Do it right.

If she were mine, the hull would be perfect before I thought about installing the new engine.

Re: Prop question

Hotdog Get a good tune on your hull and get your engine angle set correctly, she sure ought to scoot. Exhaust Gas Temperature is a killer. If you are running more than 400', sure might think about cooling with fuel. Chasing that last 6-8 horsepower is an engine killer on an airboat. Air fuel ratio a...

Hotdog

If a 23 degree piece, (solid roller motor) and that 4" stroke stuffed in a standard deck height block, crankshaft bearings probably short lived. If you designed a 13 to 1 piece and if dynamically you are not sending your torque out the exhaust door, I expect you already know this. :-)

Re: Prop question

Hotdog If you are talking 23 degree 434 and pump gas, yes, it is likely you can hold that motor to a chosen governed RPM with that prop. Try it, Set pitch to 3.5 and see what you got. One thing for sure, you got a lot of prop. Might even be an extremely nice setup depending on size and weight of boa...

Re: Help with cam

1) Leave camshaft alone. If you need more push and like your prop, change gear reduction ratio. (2.67) Get more pitch in your prop. Govern engine 54-5600. 2) Leave camshaft alone. Try to borrow (2) blade 78" Falcon. Govern @ same given RPM. :-) 3) Leave camshaft alone with the 2 to 1 ratio. GM ...

Re: CM Setup

Diggin I wonder if you had a weak cylinder for quite some time on your LSA? With the new engine (hopefully new) may pull more pitch to same governed RPM? If so, cruise #'s may drop? One change at a time and new engine is that initial one change. Then, monitor results. JMO- Making a hull tuning sugge...

I hear Tony's boat is tuned Phenominal. Some guy from North Central Kansas tells me this.

Maybe you could bump into Tony and he help you tune your hull & rigging. :)

cranking cylinder pressure is low even @ 140#. Did you have the carb throttle plates open when cranking?

I would think on a direct drive piece 175# cranking cylinder pressure would be an absolute minimum. JMO-

Re: Airboat porpoising

The best way is to start at the beginning; then at least you know what you are working with. Jumping right to 'putting a belly in the hull' will only complicate matters and give you a heartburn. To radically oversimplify the scenario: First, the bottom of the hull should be straight and flat. . (Th...

Re: Big Trouble Brewing?

Diggin My paper work, oil fill cap and engine cover all suggest my PCM LSA uses 5/30 engine oil. It is my opinion that both the Marine Power and the PCM have the same internals. Exactly the same internals, different ECM's. A suggestion would be to put 5W30 engine oil back in your engine and a new se...

Re: Big Trouble Brewing?

Looking at spark plug that is fouled, would suggest a new set of plugs. Vertical scoring in the cylinder is not uncommon. Exhaust port does not look like culprit cylinder is pumping oil. Noboby knows if you put a new plug in the engine and monitored burn for a short time. Possibly, she is perfect af...

Re: Prop change powershift to R series

I think it is possible to change your redrive ratio to a 2 to 1 ratio. Your current prop should be a real good fit for the 2 to 1 ratio.

You can contact Century Drive Systems for exact info on changing to a 2 to 1 ratio.
Century- 814-677-7100

IMO-Good idea to change ratio to 2 to 1

Re: hp and torque

15' deckover, GM 435hp 383, 2.09-1 stinger, 3 blade whisper tip, my question relates to HP and torque. the two meet at approx. 5200 rpm, then hp increases and torque starts to drop. If I set my prop to the max of 2500 prop rpms at WOT that puts me at 5250 engine rpms, would I gain anything by chang...
