Re: Website Downtime...
Appreciate that Deano. This old website seems to keep on cranking through the years thanks to people like yourself...thank you I did put in here by the house after the site was back online to test a new prop setting that went pretty well so it was still a good day here... just hate it when the site ...

Website Downtime...
Sorry for the downtime today. Had some unexplained problems with the server starting at around midnight last night.
Hopefully we'll be good to go now.

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Appreciate that Prototype. I plan on running it like it is for a short while, then putting some paint on the rudders & gas tank and maybe doing the pickling paste afterwards. I did get it out this weekend with some tape on the oil cooler and got the temp up to 150°+ per the gauge. Shot it from t...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Appreciate the info. and compliments. Where is the oil temp sending unit located? Sending unit is located at the oil filter kwanjangnihm. I would add some tape to the cooler Nascar style and wait until summer before making any changes to the cooler setup. I like that idea. Gonna put some time on it ...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Thanks...had a great first ride. Been many years since I rigged a boat out and it took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I am tickled shitless :D The one concern I do have though is that the motor probably runs a little cooler than it should. If the new oil temp gauge is correct, it never go...

Well I finally filled her up with avgas this morning for the first time and as soon as my grandson gets here, we're gonna take it out for a short run and see how it does. Seems to run real good sittin on the trailer.
I'll post more pics later this evening.

Re: 540 Headers...
Thanks Frankie, but I went ahead & used the headers that I had. Bolted the flex pipe to the cage so I'll be able to lift everything at once when it comes time to redo the slick bottom.

Looks good hdsadey.
Those tig welds look cleaner than the mig welds on my rigging. Might have to consider that pickling paste myself.

Re: Got a SS welding question...
Appreciate the help. I was thinking about buying a high dollar bottle of that tri-mix, but spent the money on a tig welder to go with that bottle of argon instead. I'll either mig with the C25 or tig with the argon. I tigged a lot of aluminum in my younger years at work, but that was when I could se...

Got a SS welding question...
I need to mig some flat bar & angles to my stainless rigging to mount a few things ie., fuel pump & filter, gas tank, battery tray, etc.. I have a little Lincoln Pro 135 welder with a bottle of 75/25 argon/co2 and a bottle of 100% argon. Pretty sure that neither bottle is best to mig SS, but...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Thanks everybody. I'll race ya, but only in the thick stuff... No way. I've seen those Stossel boats run that St. Johns River switch grass :) What HP and TQ does this 540's make? I'm no expert, but from what I understand the 8.5:1 straight valve 540's are rated at 260hp @ 2700rpms. This torque calcu...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Starting to look like an airboat now that the 540 is mounted on some nice stainless rigging. PM'd Darrin with Sensenich ( DAGWOOD0520 on SA). He set me up with a 3 blade 72" JN for the 540. I love the way that prop can be taken off and not change the pitch on the blades. First time to ever have...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Thanks NorthWestFloridaBoy. It is pretty easy to put together an airboat in Central Florida.
Good Luck with the hurricane cleanup and finding a deckover for your next ride.
I'm gonna try to get some new pictures up today.

pipedog, you built yourself a helluva boat right there. Always glad to see success when it comes to a new build. Almost 80,000 views on this thread. I'm sure this thread has helped others with their builds too, so thanks for that. And I am in to that "social distancing airboat style" stuff...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Hey I need the "Pull a CM Guy to Dock" punched. Gotta confess though...I have been pulled in per CM boat at least once in my life
Should be punching that "Build Airboat Rigging" spot real soon...maybe in the next day or two.

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Yep, if that works, I can stay out of the dog house, get my boat built, and maybe get a back rub at the same time. Might as well dream bigTell her your back’s out, and you’re in terrible pain!

Yep, didn't notice the shrouds until now Jeff. Never had one, but I hear they keep them cylinders cooler...especially the middle ones. You run a shroud on your aircraft engine? just a few year later the Drag Queens took over That's funny (no pun intended) about the Parliament House lol. Being born &...

Old airboat magazine that Paul Dixon (RIP Paul) sent me years ago to scan & post. The whole magazine can be read here: http://southernairboat.com/pdf/5-74-magazine.pdf ...or by clicking the image. It was acturally posted quite a few years back...just thought I'd bring it back for old times sake....

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Thanks Deano. I think I'll try that amber light.
Hopefully I'll have some rigging pics soon.
I had also forgot about all them damn honey-do's that don't get done when you're trying to get a boat built. Anybody got any advice for staying out of the dog house while you're building a boat?
