Re: Old airboat, new driver, and problems

IF you are going to be serious about airboats for years to come.... consider buying a LS engine built by airboat motor builder, put a 2.5 to 2.68 reduction unit on it, buy a 3 blade 80"?? R Sensenich and put it on your hull...... worst case, you can move that engine/reduction unit and blades to a ni...

Re: Old airboat, new driver, and problems

I have re-read this thread and don't see your application.. How many pounds of people do you want to run? How many pounds of fuel / how many miles do you want to be able to run? What speed do you want to cruise at? What rpm do you want your motor to be able to run at cruise shallow or deep water? ro...

Re: Old airboat, new driver, and problems

Hope is not going to help you.... Knowing what I know, have learned, I think it is a sure bet that you will later regret spending any more on what you have..... jmo a car motor unmodified does not work long or well in an airboat... even if fresh rebuilt... If you could find some sucker to take that ...

Re: Old airboat, new driver, and problems

I learned the hard way, I purchased a "cheap" boat for 20k and spent 1 mm worth of worrying about what to do, 50k in upgrades, 90% of the time in the shop and it ended up being worth $10-20k. IT never performed to my expectations or desires. Instead, Had I purchased a 30-40k airboat, I would have be...

I was not talking about back in the day.... I was talking about last year... Does Dave at Water Thunder recommend his LS engines for big heavy airboats ?? There is no doubt he builds a great LS engine, however does he recommend his engine for a big heavy bowfishing boat? or big heavy deckover? Every...

I think I remember that if you call and ask Water Thunder about putting a LS engine in a big heavy airboat that they don't recommend it, has that changed?

I have a 565 cu inch bbc with the 2.5 reduction, I run a 86" S 4 blade on 1 with 700 hp and 690 torque at 5200 rpm.... if you put a 3 blade S on yours you will be able to add more pitch and it should run fine..... I tested my boat with the four blade R 86", four blade R 82", four blade S 82" and fou...

Re: AIRBOAT HELP

My advice.... If you are a bow fisherman then get with some Texas Airboaters that bowfish and ride in their boats and ask them lots of questions if you are a duck hunter, then find you a texas duck hunter that is an air boater and do the same. there are least 5 different texas/oklahoma/arkansas airb...

Re: Longhorn Custom Fab?

I looked at the link you sent... LS3 but with a two blade prop??? indicates to me that it does not have much torque or hp. 2.3 instead of 2.68 drive? LS engines like rpm to produce power... 34k... not cheap... 7 t bars.... not heavy duty bottom. underpowered, crate engine not built for airboat use, ...

Does anyone know where I can find a used 3 blade long Sensenich hub to try? There should be some around with all the movement to four blade hubs.

Re: Stroker motor recommendations ??

Even boat and engine builders with good history and good customer service departments can over commit and have very dissatisfied customers as a result....... You own an airboat because you want to use it, not have it sit in a shop for months on end. IF you are in a hurry I strongly suggest you get a...

Re: Headers glowing red

When in doubt.... find someone that knows... and never let your engine ping or detonate... your issues could be fuel, too much or too little air, not enough spark, bad plugs, timing retarded too much, plug wires and probably 100 things I never heard of. are your plugs running rich, lean or about rig...

Re: Headers glowing red

By the way, too rich of mixture, resulting in unburned fuel firing in the headers and exhaust could also be the issue.

when you advance timing at idle your engine rpm increases

Re: Headers glowing red

I have had the same issue in the past.... Needs to be resolved... This is usually caused by two things. Either you are running real lean (not enough fuel) or your timing is too late (retarded). A lean cylinder makes a lot more heat and causes the headers to heat-up beyond their normal temperatures, ...

Re: 0360 180 hp fuel usage

I reread your post, have you made sure your air cleaner is clean and large enough, too much gas, too little air, will give you black smoke... unburned gas.... bad plugs, bad wires, bad ignition... I would check on air flow to the carb first... if it always smoked black smoke then look to carb adjust...
