Re: Running in salt water
South Carolina actually has a State Law banning Airboats from saltwater!! I have no idea why, but as such, the water cops classified a friend of mine's Hovercraft as an Airboat & ticketed him for running around the inlets around Charleston. I hate mindless laws & interpretations like this be...

Re: New ej20 subaru turbo 2:1 belt drive 10 blade
I’d definitely go with a banded belt. Most of us Hovercrafters use either a banded belt, or synchronous drive like the Gates PolyChain. Backside idlers typically won’t harm a banded belt, either. A synchronous belt is tensioned ( acoustically tuned) & doesn’t require an idler. For banded belt op...

Re: Hovercraft at Ft Lane Park This Weekend
I'm heading out by the Econ today, maybe we will stop by and check it out. You guys should try running south of hwy 50, lots of open green pastures perfect for those things! We had some crummy weather. Just ran along the lakeshore, & down to The Jolly Gator. I’ve had mine down as far as Loughma...

Hovercraft at Ft Lane Park This Weekend
I’m hosting a group of Hovercraft enthusiasts this weekend (7-8) at Ft Lane Park on Lk Harney. If you want to see some interesting Amphibious vessels, both home-built & manufactured, come on out for a look! We'll likely be gathered around the park more so in the afternoon after our morning cruis...

Re: St Johns No Wake
Here’s the reply I got from Seminole County: Temporary— the concern is over docks still under water that boaters may not see. Also, some backyards are still under water and wake would push water further up on the yards. ****Florida has a very broad Public Records Law. Virtually all written communica...

St Johns No Wake
With the water levels decreasing, the blanket ‘No Wake’ on the St Johns was rescinded 11/16. However, Seminole County enacted a ‘No Wake’ Executive Order on the St Johns from the East side of Lk Monroe to the South side of Lk Harney ‘for all to enjoy, & to protect property.’ I’m wondering if thi...

Re: Central FL Hovercraft Cruise
Sorry for the short notice, Glades. I had he flu leading up to the event & planning suffered as a result. I always schedule the hovercraft cruise for the weekend prior to Sun-n-Fun so out of state participants can attend both events easily. I'm local to Lake Harney, & there are a few others ...

Central FL Hovercraft Cruise
The annual Central FL Hovercraft Cruise, sponsored by the Hoverclub of America, is once again going on this weekend at Ft Lane Park. We will be on some organized cruises up & down the St Johns from Puzzle Lake to Sanford, but in between, we'll be playing around on Lake Harney near our base of op...

Re: Light bars
We were running some non-navigable sloughs on the Mississippi last fall at the National Hovercraft Rally in Muscatine, Iowa...had a barge light us up real good with his bazillion candlepower spotlight! To me, if you're in a marked channel, or around other vessels, keep it to USCG required lighting. ...

I sort-of do that with my hovercraft, but it helps when it provides its own lift!!

Looks like it originated somewhere in the 2nd stage. Sad to see it come apart. I hope useful data is recovered for a fix to increase its reliability for human travel! Better to lose a Facebook bird than an ISS crew!!

I would advise against clicking that link!! From the member's join date: TODAY, & use of 'Engrish,' I'd highly suspect that's a MALWARE SITE!! The post has been reported. Surf at your own risk!

I've run out of there on my hovercraft, but I've always gone North to the Econ River or Jolly Gator Fish Camp on SR-46. I need to get down to Lone Cabbage sometime!

Navionics Boat US is a nice download on the smartphone, as is "you need a map" with the Uncle Sam icon. It loads all data on the phone so you can work with it offline with just the GPS receiver functional & out of cell/data range.

Re: north carolina
I had a friend who decided to sell his hovercraft because SC bans Airboat's on the saltwater side of the fresh/salt interphase. He lived in Charleston & loved running it in the marsh, but the water cops got wind of him & started writing him tickets. So, you'll just have to avoid SC saltwater...

Re: Beware Malabar ramp!!!
I can't believe they built a ramp more or less specifically targeted towards airboats & didn't account for traditional launching methods, nor short-term 'parking!' Heck, even the myfwc site warns-off kicker boats! Then, LEOs act all surprised & miffed when traditional airboat activity occurs...

Amphibious Marine uses an 84" 3-blade Ivo Paddle-Blade pusher behind a 135hp Steyer Diesel on their 24' Explorer Hovercraft. Works pretty well.

Re: common sense and coutesy
For pretty cheap, you could get a couple of these cameras & mount them back-to-back to cover your bases. Set them on loop recording & they'll continue to record over old footage till you stop them to capture the event of interest. Guess there are jerks on the water just as there are on the r...

Here are a couple videos. The frontal thunderstorms that weekend kinda blew-out our event, but we still got some cruising in. This video is of us running a round-trip from Ft Lane Park on Lk Harney to almost the Sanford Zoo on Lk Monroe with a stop at Gators Dockside & Mullet Lake Park. A3_YGQkH...
