Re: Chuck. James Rackley

I just read this and what a sad day for me. Chuck was very helpful towards me in building the ecotec boat. He will be missed by those that knew him! RIP Chuck.

Re: Leave the pcv valve on or take it out pros and cons

Yes they can. But for those that are not mechanically inclined to adjust (Tune) the engine to make up for the lean condition cause by their simple pcv vented set-up, a closed system is more desirable for 95% of all cm airboats. Hell, you can run. vents in both valve covers and if you have a good set...

Re: Leave the pcv valve on or take it out pros and cons

If a filtered vent or any vent is used on one valve cover and pcv on the other connected to a engine vacuum source 2 things happen (1) the vacuum source can't pull the inside of an engine to a vacuum state. This constant vacuum prevents oil from escaping seals and gaskets. (2) The carburetor was NOT...

Re: Jegs blue print enginr

That crank is almost $700 nowadays. The blue engines have been used on airboats but they don't live long. I know of 3 that died short of 50hrs.

Re: 400 sbc build

IMHO, What is ur hp goal? A good 406 can make 560 to 600hp on pump gas. I would pull ur 400 down and inspect the deck for cracks between steam holes and bolt holes. If block is good, Re use ur factory crank, put in 5.7" or 6.0" rods with a matching piston for 10 to 1 compression, no more than 10.5 to...

Re: Stock LS1 aluminum block bottom end internals longevity

What you typed has nothing to do with what I said. Please correct me? I included your typed and if you think just turning a prop more rpm is more thrust then my response is correct! More prop rpm can also kill performance even with new gen props! Sorry I confused you. When you run the numbers it's ...

Re: Stock LS1 aluminum block bottom end internals longevity

I'm not here to argue, it's been proven over and over. Thrust is thrust and stated thrust for a given hp is what it is. Doesn't matter if your moving or stationary. Both examples will gain rpm with a moving boat. A props efficiency point (2 or 2.5 pitch) what ever it is and geared to spin at it's ma...

Re: Stock LS1 aluminum block bottom end internals longevity

more prop rpm less pitch makes more thrust than less prop rpm and more pitch given the same hp and performs said work on less fuel. Thrust tester don't lie.

Re: Stock LS1 aluminum block bottom end internals longevity

I would have changed the cam and valve train and nothing else. Money spent on heads only gonna gain you 15-20hp. That engine with cam and tune should make 430-460hp. 2.38 box is perfect as rpm trumps pitch in terms of efficiency. Lower cruz rpm, better fuel consumption and a quieter boat. Got many b...

Re: LTG ecotec engine wiring help needed

When I did the LNF Chuck did the harness and Trifecta did the tune. Never again! Each engine combination will be different unless u only use all the factory parts as it was in the car. So the tune must be altered for each boat and Trifecta didn't want to do that. Apparently $400 for a tune isn't eno...

Re: What size reduction

I have a friend with a 572 gm crate engine with mouse rebuild :D , 2.38 box and 4 blade 82" NGR and it does good on a heavy 3000# deckover. I would keep the 2.38 box and change to a 4 blade JX with the short hub for that power. Very good push from an efficient blade. Very satisfied with mine.

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

Prototype, I also felt that way until I figured it out. Maybe it will change. U can pay high $ for an American name brand part only to find out it was made in China and reboxed here. Then there are those that are completely made here that are 3 times the price and out of range for most of us or more...

It doesn't work quite that way. Ur also feeding 96 more cubic inches. Prob would be about the same as now or a touch more. Many factors to consider. Cam too large will increase fuel consumption in the lower rpms.

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

There are 2 engine builders with the White name. I'm not familiar with Whites Performance but have had several friends use Skip White Performance and were happy with the engines they received. A 540 or any BBC that is carbureted will be thirsty.

Actually for now I have it tuned 11psi and prob 800/850 hp. The 454 with 10.5 to 1 pistons an aluminum set of heads cam intake 1050 carb go 600 pretty easy. Jus takes the right parts. Many options to work from.

Wow, talking about going around ur elbow to reach ur, ah nevermind. On the sbc, clearancing the block and purchasing the right crank and rods for the application is a better choice. Machine work is already done for same $$. The right rods and nothing to be done to them and very little if any to the ...
