Where to put the braided coupler?
Right on the end of the collector? Then hard pipe ok to the X muffler and to the end mufflers still working ok? I don't care for flex tube personally. 496/600 torque, has 3 inch collectors, I can get 3 inch mufflers or 3 inch to 2.5 inch to choke it back a bit... Comments? Only have a week before ge...

Re: Cam shaft question 496
I do have the dyno sheet from the engine from before I started to swap parts, it shows peak torque at to hit 595 at 4900. At 6000 rpms it was down to 528 torque but up from 555 HP to 603 HP. Peak HP was 615 at 6053 rpms. Although it seems a note on there was at 36 on timing and thats a bit high to m...

Cam shaft question 496
The short of the story, bought a 496 some years ago, built. Can't find the builder anymore. It was for a Camaro IIRC. Got a decent deal. Have the 454 crater on me. I'm moving to AK in 1.5 months and found out can't get high octane fuel easily so swapping parts on the 496 to get compression down to a...

Re: 496 max compression?
Good input. I was hoping to hold at least 9.5 Hoping not to change the cam though. I've enough issues going on as is. LOL. BUT do you have info on the cam specs you are talking? I"m not a motor guy, but I am a parts changing monkey... no clue why I change things, but when told I need this or th...

496 max compression?
Have a 496, built, no clue the compression the dyno sheet shows 1/1? not legible. Moving to Alaska with the boat. 87 octane will be the normal fuel, can get 91 at times, nothing more unless aviation fuel and that's 6 a gallon or more... So I need to pull this motor apart and take the iron heads off,...

Re: learning a new lesson about salt water
We were out when a strong norther came in some years ago. We knew it was coming. And we were still safe. Shallow water except for the intracoastal portion. The problem is it came in stronger than I thought. And I'd never driven in wind like that. Could not control the boat in turns at all at times. ...

Anchor light source
Contemplating putting my bow lights as seperate lights on my cage also... But the main thing now, I saw a flat low profile anchor light the other day. Inside the top of the cage, no "pole" on it etc... but 360 light. Man would that be the way to go. No way for limbs and stuff to knock it o...

Re: Next steering question
As a simple FYI... I put the 1 inch EMT back today, but happened to try something.... Found a piece of 3/4 Galv pipe, that looked like it would almost fit. And it did, excepting for the seam burr inside the EMT.. So I took a grinder and ground off most of the galvinizing and some pipe on the 32 inch...

Great Story, IMHO, our Christmas Day Hunt ended Great!
I've said since 2 trees fell into our house in the 90s, and no one was hurt, long story there, but things happen for a reason, no matter how bad they seem. Our nephew is in from USMC. Before shipping out shortly. Only day he had to hunt ducks. Bought a stamp, public hunt permit etc... IE cost him so...

Thanks, didn't know if it was teleflex but differnet kind.
I'll google the PTO now. Probably not available at a local boat store.

What teleflex cable for steering?
Trying to get a new one today from a boat dealer, so that we have one for Friday AM hunt.
I just realized its not the same as on my boat, since it has holes for bolts in both ends. Rather than the part that goes up into a boat steering wheel.
Thansk for any help.

Re: Next steering question
Collars I can figure, was guessing that radiator clamps could work too instead of a hole and a cotter pin. but the fact we bend 1 inch EMT all the time to place it in projects, still bothers me. Need to find a pillow block that would take 1 inch pipe and go from there. Thats the part that bends. Wil...

Re: Next steering question
is 1 inch pipe same OD as 1 inch EMT?
It is bridged basically, if we are on the same page.
Not aware of the collars. Not that many boats here in town and this is the way it was when we bought it.

Next steering question
my rudder stick is out of EMT 1 inch. Has pillow blocks with nylon inserts. Drilled hole for cotter pin either side of block... Makes it weak. This is the second time broken. Are there pillow blocks where I can make the stick out of 1 inch pipe instead of 1 inch EMT? Something stronger for sure. I h...

Steering Teleflex question
On the end is the SS shaft that comes out of an SS sleeve that looks crimped into the end of the cable on each end. My rudder stick broke this morning in the dark. Had to push pull with the stick back and forth while someone else gave it some gas... The SS tube end came out of the teleflex end. Is t...

Without question I would go with injection! JMO. Good to hear from you Jeff. Been a few years since we had duck water... just found it Friday, confirmed Saturday, whacked limits this morning. Good to run the boat again. Could have stacked em in probably 10 minutes if we had wanted to... Need to get...

Re: fuel injection or carb?
7-8 miles gets me started to my duck hunts....
Of course we bowfish some in the s ummer too when water allows it. Idle even a carb isn't bad on gas IMHO.
Might be that a carb is 2000 cheaper and 2000 can buy the difference of a lot of fuel possibly.
Thats why I'm asking.
