Re: Finally almost there !

Finally filled up the tank and spun it over. 50 lbs of pressure just cranking with the plugs pulled I think it will be ok. Going to load it up this week and take it to have the ignition put on it and finish the build. Can't wait to get this thing in the water

Re: Need help figurung out what egine I have

From the limited experience that I have with Continentals it appears to be an 0-470 Not sure of the HP but would guess in the 230 to 250 range.

Break in oil

Getting ready to crank up a GSO540 that has had the cylinders re-done Didn't do anything to the bottom end except look it over and everything there(bearings and cam) looked good. I believe I should use the mineral oil for break in. Does anyone know if Phillips makes a mineral oil or are all of their...

Finally almost there !

This might sound like a silly question but after a long journey I'm going to finally put some power to my new build and spin it over to at least get some oil circulating through it before I take it to get the ignition put on it. It's a GSO540, I got the oil tank from Hamant and it appears to probabl...

I don't think so Rick . I saw his post on facebook that he was advertising for work building riggings. Hope anyone thinking about using him will do their due diligence before entering into an agreement with him.

Thanks for all the input. I was able to go to a hydraulic repair shop and actually have a fitting machined to fit. Went together and looks like it will work out fine.

Oil temp sender on GSO-540

I'm having a problem I'm sure others have run into but haven't been able to find a tread here that talks about this problem. I removed the old aircraft temp sender on my GSO540 and it is a 5/8-18(fine) thread that seals with a copper gasket. Went with an Autometer electric temp gauge on the new buil...

Duece there is a Cumbee listed in the classifieds that sounds like it would be pretty close to a direct swap.

Re: 0470 PERFORMANCE HELP??

If you are going to consider a turbo just know that you will probably have to replace the pistons at least and make sure the bottom end is in good shape to withstand the added cylinder pressures.

Oil cooler line sizes

I went back and searched the past posts but didn't really find what I was looking for so here goes. I'm finally putting together my GSO540 boat and I don't know if I have messed up or not. I made up the oil cooler lines using stainless braided lines and AN fittings to get the look I was wanting but ...

Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

There is someone who works with Darin at Pacemaker ignitions who has been building electronic fuel injection systems for several 6 cylinder aircraft engines (both Lycoming and Continental) The people I have spoken to seem to be very satisfied with them. They have said they are very dependable and fu...

Was a poster that used to be on here all the time who went by Farmboy that has a great running SC480 that was going to be putting on a water/methanol injection system on his but not sure if he got it going or not. Might try to contact him and see what input he might have. He's a nice guy and will he...

Re: Advice on building rigging for new boat

Think Swamphunter has some great advice. Plans can change from concept to finish build. Think the best route would be to gather all major components so no double work is done. One thing to consider is that maybe a great deal come along on a gearbox or prop that is just too good to pass up, it might ...

Re: Help setting up trailer

Just looking at the pic that you posted it looks as if just a dovetail at the rear would be enough to dry load. If you wanted to put a roller at the point where the dovetail attached to the trailer it would help as the hull went up onto the trailer but not sure if that is really necessary. JMO

Do a search for Pacemaker Performance and contact them they do a system for 6 cylinder aircraft engines that seem to work very well, I'm sure they could do a 4 cylinder system also. Not sure of the cost.
