Re: Irma prayer
I've been watching the news and wanted you guys to know that even though I haven't been to FL for a while the friends I made there and here on Southern Airboat are in our thoughts and prayers . I hope you all stay safe .

Re: Airboat skipping on water/plane
A trim tab would be good but for me I go over beaver dams , logs , dry load so much I'm sure I'd forget to down and peel it right off .

Re: Airboat skipping on water/plane
I think that link worked . This hull adjustment lasts a summer or so then from dry loading the lip bends back up a bit and the boat starts to porpoise again . Five minutes of bending it down on the trailer and it runs flat at full speed again . Doesn't take much just a couple of degrees of downward ...

Re: Airboat skipping on water/plane
What you're going through is a reoccurring thing with my boat . For me there's a very simple fix . At the bottom of the transom there is a lip that extends out of the bottom rear of the hull . Once or twice a year I bend this lip down just a bit . It sort of acts as a trim tab and keeps the front of...

Re: Are all airboats under power as soon as you start up??
Nice that someone is thinking about me . Rough last couple of years . Got my right knee totaled at work Aug/14 .Retired Sept/14 . Just got a compete knee replacement May 3/16 . Had my boat out two days ago for the first time this year . It sucks not to have full mobility but it's coming around now .

Re: Are all airboats under power as soon as you start up??
My boat has a 350 engine and gearbox . It starts under power but will only move at an idle in open water or on ice . On the ground or in material like weeds or anything that puts a bit of drag on the hull it will stay put till you gas it . When it's moving at idle in water it's not at much more than...

Re: vinage canadian airboats
I think the " scoot" type Georgian Bay Ontario airboat predates the Florida airboats . First ride I took in an airboat was with a guy named Harvey Arnold a Georgian Bay airboating living legend . One ride and I was hooked .

When I first got on SA in'07 I'd go looking for stuff that Dusty had posted up . Gave me a lot of laughs on those cold winter nights .

Re: can airboat be airlifted by a helicopter
The last time I saw a swamp buggy it was six days drive from here ( round trip ) at the West Palm Beach Airboat and Swamp buggy show . Kind of tough for me to got to FL , borrow one , float it home and back then come home again . 12 days driving . I sure would like to have one up here . One thing th...

Re: can airboat be airlifted by a helicopter
A couple of years ago when I was way back in the boonies where only an airboat could go I was thinking " What if a rod broke and went out the side of the block right about now? How would I ever get this boat out of here ? " I asked around and the closest place with a "work" type helicopter is 150 mi...

Re: can airboat be airlifted by a helicopter
The answer to this is also of interest to me but for a different reason . If my boat breaks down badly here where there are no other airboats can it be recovered with a helicopter ? How would you rig it to be lifted ?

Maybe next time he'll try three or four hundred pounds of tow chain at the back of the hull just to balance her out .
Jeez what a sh1t show !

Re: How to submarine a rescue airboat.
When I watched it again it looks like they were going down stream . Subtract the speed of the current from the forward motion of the boat that should keep the hull on plane and the operator has the hull settle in on him with out expecting it . He's bow heavy , hits a bit of a wave and next news it's...

Re: How to submarine a rescue airboat.
Wow ! I've scooped in water coming off some big beaver dams before I put on the solid bow rake . How did this boat go out that bow heavy with out the operator catching the play that it wasn't sitting right in the water before things got that out of hand ? There must have been some heavy gear up fron...

Re: I'll never top today's ride
It just started as a favor to a good close friend . I didn't realize how powerful of an emotional experience it would turn out to be for me . Out on the boat I was thinking of how it must be through her eyes , trying to take it all in for what was probably the last time. It made the colors a bit sha...

I'll never top today's ride
A close friend called me and said he had a "special favor" to ask of me . A family friend of his who has advanced cancer and only days to live had seen my airboat at some time and now asked him if it would be possible for me to take her out for a ride as one of her final " bucket list" wishes . My f...

Re: New guy from Sanford area.
Got to admire your bravery and determination taking on a project like that . Years ago I bought my first Harley after it had hit a car , burned and was stripped to nothing by the first owner . I still remember the first time I got it running and on the road again . To this day I regret selling 30 ye...

Rudder set up
I've been doing some work on the cable and joints that control the rudders on my boat and was wondering if they are best set up so they are parallel to each other or is there any advantage to having them toe in or toe out slightly . My boat has air foil type rudders .
Thanks
Thanks

Mojoe :
Good points . If I would have known a bit more when I bought my boat I wouldn't be running a FL style boat in the boonies of Northern Ontario Canada . It still is a hoot to use up here , so rare it's like having my own UFO . Some just love it , others hate it .

Re: SUNK MY BOAT!!!!
Now that you got that out of your system you should be good for a while . Good that your dad was there . Sinking my boat weighs on my mind at times. Some of the lakes I run are over 100 feet deep and no one is around for 50 miles . If you're going to sink it you did it at a good time and good place .

Re: ATF
If it is locked up in the cylinders you should be able to still feel slight movement if you can get a socket and power bar on the end of the crank and rock it back and forth . If the crank is seized it will sort of feel like a nut welded to an anvil when you try to rock the crank . It won't have any...
