I think getting to the 4 inch stroke is part of the magic.

Re: 351w carb tuning

I totally concur that in the direct drive car motor catagory of airboat power the displacement gain by lengthening of stroke is where torque can be gained. What is a stock 351W stroke and what is the stroke in you custom engine now HD ? Think about this for a minute. When Cadillac introduced the new...

Re: Looking For Everglades Camp Membership

Not sure if you had seen the one in classifieds but in the past few years it is the only one I recall seeing. There have been camps for sale but in the hundred K plus X range. While not cheap this appears to be what the cost would be to have that elite privilege. https://southernairboat.com/southern...

Re: 3+ blade help

I call him the "WIZARD" ! It would be worth the money to have him look your engine over and offer up his opinion if he would have the time to do that anymore. As of lately he turns down a lot of work because he has a line of people waiting on new engines. If your gonna be a Cadillac power ...

Re: 3+ blade help

Power is made at the engine and multiplied by the drive. More info on the prop would be helpful in looking at your situation. The overall length of the prop, current pitch setting and blade model (width) will help people to offer an informed opinion and provide their advice. Are you sure it is a tru...

Re: Not happy about hull!!

I would recommend you take it to someone who has repaired airboat hulls before. The front tabs of your rigging experience a lot of stress. They will want to determine why the stringer failed such as was it from stress, impact or wood rot. A lighter boat has more flex than a stiff heavy boat. They te...

Re: Hoop nets

I have never run hoop nets but looked on YouTube and can't see why they would be an issue if you had a big stable hull like a 16 or 18 RiverMaster or Kennedy. We originally built my boat to net fish the fall run in the creeks and backwaters. We put two cast netters up on the front. We fabricated a w...

Re: New member from bayou country

Welcome to the forum. Few years back we did have a few active Texas guys on here. Old "Crowhater" from Conroe that guy could blow up some engines now! Nothing was safe from his airboat to his Corvette over to the diesel truck and a big twin diesel sportfish if it had an engine "CROW&q...

Re: Rescue airboat fiberglass hull

First thing with an engine that has been sitting out is to pull the plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders. See if it is seized up or if it turns over. Prop will be junk Looks like a Caddy just not sure which engine 425, 472 or 500 so if a 472 or 500 you have something worth fooling with if not ...

Re: Rescue airboat fiberglass hull

That looks like it has been through hell. From what I am seeing it would be my advice to first make an assessment of the engine as to if it is in running condition and worth any future investment of time and effort. If the engine is a survivor the next would be the rigging. Inspect it for rust, dama...

Sensenich JX compared to S blades

This weekend I was fortunate to have a friend hand me his brand new still in the bubble paper Sensenich 4 blade 82 inch JX-modified to test. I have a new 2.55 OX Drive and needed some test data. We pulled off my 4 blade 81.5 S blades and mounted up the new all carbon fiber JX-mods. First thing is th...

Blu ran a 74 Q with his DD Jimmy White and it was fast & would run dry with no problems loaded. Mr Branch actually has that boat now and is building a big stroker engine for it. He is planning on running a 3 blade Q prop at 72 inches. I like the Q

Re: Thrust bearings? Aircraft vs. Automotive

HD have you seen any engines that have been modified to utilize a roller bearing thrust. I know a guy who has a Chris Nelson twin turbo in a pro mod and in conversation he discussed that the engine and transmission are under such a load that a roller thrust must be used. Next time he has it open I w...

Re: Thrust bearings? Aircraft vs. Automotive

Having the thrust centered in my opinion was to eliminate or minimize crank flex. In the case of the Cadillac platform having a rear mounted thrust would expedite it's failure as that is the last area to recieve oil in the engine and furthest from the pump. As far as bearings go I am not sure which ...

We have used an NGQ before on a heavy DD cm boat and it worked very well.

I would purchase one again if ever building a AC or DD boat.

Re: Thrust bearings? Aircraft vs. Automotive

Without any doubt the auto engine was not originally designed to handle the pressure of a propeller making thrust. Yet some do and have demonstrated the ability to do it for long periods without fail. The Cadillac 472/500, Olds 455 and Buick 455 have proven this over the past 45 years. It is importa...
