Re: Borg- Warner gear box

Back in the old days there weren't any drives for the car motor, one fellow (Roberts Box) as I'm told started adapting the aviation drives. Another fellow set off to build a new design called the K-Way which was the DNA for Rotator and Stinger. Stinger is still owned by that gear drive pioneers fami...

Re: Caddy 500, 4bbl carb or Holley Sniper?

Mr Branch put an EFI system on a hot 520 inch roller engine a few months back. Other than a pump issue he loves it. That said he will tell you his testing would advise a single plane intake for the Cadillac as GM did when they put the system into service. There is a new carb out that is working real...

Re: Fuel pressure drop at 180

Does the temp stay at 180 or does it shoot up?

Curious if you have checked the coolant or if steam may be a factor.

Unforgiven is 100% spot on with swapping out the sensor, and chasing that path.

I'm just thinking out loud ahead of that swap.

Re: navigation gps

I run a Garmin that has a dual use feature. It has charts for running coastal and an automotive function. I find inland the automotive function fits all my needs. It lays a track line and has a fair level of detail in most of the area I run. It was fairly cheap as well being a discontinued model it ...

Re: 509 BBC Cam help low power

The cam they recommended will provide power through the entire rpm range and it should idle very well. The lift is not extreme so in most cases it should not cause interference. The cam you selected will be choppy and it's power may prove to be peaky rather than broad. It is more a cam for a car sho...

Re: anyone running a 350 with 2.1 box?

I have seen a 13ft glass boat running around with a junk yard sbc take out that ran very well.

1973 Chevy 400 with a 2 barrel Rochester carburetor, it came out of a 4 dr Caprice Classic. Had long tube headers and a HEI upgrade with good curve.

Ran dry with 2 adults like it was no trouble at all

Taurus G2

If you recently purchased a Taurus G2 it is my advice to avoid shooting Amscor ammo out of it. I have a buddy who manages a very busy gun shop and they have had 5 incidents where ammo bound the gun up out of battery. It can be remedied by forcing the muzzle against a beam or table edge and applying ...

It appears GM is exploring a new ECU / ECM in which it's software will no longer be able to have a programmer alter the factory tune.

Re: Running in salt water

Often it is the alloy, dissimilar metals or galvanic reaction that makes for the saltwater issues. Today's modern commercial hulls fare well. That said stainless and aluminum will never have a long marriage in the saltwater. Evinrude the outboard maker learned that long ago.

Re: new 383...what oil

Mr. Branch is an Amsoil dealer as well and sends most of his new engines out with the special Z-Rod formula in them. The nice thing about Z-Rod is not only does it have the ideal level of zzpd to protect the cam and lifters but it also has a special quality to prevent rust when not in use. They offe...

Re: Just bought airboat, getting ready to start after a couple years of storage.

If it is an old engine that has been sitting you would generally want to select an oil of proper specification and use a natural oil. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with a full or semi synthetic my experience has shown they tend to leak a bit more around seals. Maybe it is a thinner base or...

Any time you put a fluid into the cylinder you want to make sure you spin it over with the plugs out. Putting a squirt or two of Marvel Mystery oil or a thin motor oil makes good sense.

While it may be "self destructive behavior" I purchased a new Ox drive in 2.55 and plan to mate it to my new Branch engine. This decision was based off of the BLACKWATER testing. This should really be a test of the power of the Cadillac platform as Mr. Branch has put 3 of these engines out...

A few years back there was a tour guide (BLACKWATER) who had tested several drives on MAS big blocks. His boat was well respected.

He always said the 2.55 worked the best.

That said he ran a quality engine making similar numbers as you stated.

Floral City Airboats builds quite a few airboats with twin remote operating electric thrust motors. They resemble a trolling motor but are mounted low on the hull. They have a control that allows them to be raised up and lowered remotely and steer with a joy stick. I have seen one fellow that had a ...
