Re: How does everyone have their sprayer set up

I don’t run one but very recently had a conversation with SlidingG about his experience with using sprayers. The thing that stuck with me the most was his advice to direct the flow back toward and even onto the hull.

That gets a higher concentration of fluid where it is needed most.

Re: An alternative to cadillac

I will share my story (two) with you one day over a beer out in the swamp. Makes your grief look like a vacation ! There is a guy over my way who has had problem with that type of set up this poor dude had issues multiple times. He finally bought a T&D full shaft set up and has resolved his issu...

Re: Warning!

What brand drive are you running ? Sounds like the company that made the drive is an honest and quality company. They should be recognized. I’m sure you know how the courts work but if all of what you say is accurate clearly this is a rock solid civil case. As this is less than $8000 of damage (4K) ...

Re: Where is this fan machine come from?

It looks like a Marine Power or Levitator engine Back in the old days the Tampa Bay BUCs in the old stadium would use airboats / wind machines to push water off the field. (Sombrero) There were some old Cadillac DD boats that Mr Branch powered that were on call. Not sure if anybody those old timers ...

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

For the benefit of future readers who are doing build or repair research. Deano is 100% correct on the KB piston comment. The true flat top Hyperutectic pistons are a good upgrade over a factory or aftermarket cast piston. They are the only KB I would use and I can attest that based on personal expe...

Re: An alternative to cadillac

Never trolled anyone on here and offered you quite a bit of insight. Are your shafts a one piece full system or multiple small shafts? How are you holding the rockers in place on the shaft to prevent side to side travel ? I have seen springs used as well as machined spacers. One outfit in CA would u...

Re: New engine cooling issue

Had an engine that with a mechanical secondary carb would go lean just as the secondaries started you open. It evidently allowed air to flow in but did not pull fuel from the Venturi until it opened more. It was odd but acted similar. Good idle Good low mid LEAN at higher mid range Excellent wide open

Re: An alternative to cadillac

Like I had mentioned the only set up with perfect geometry is T&D all the other systems use existing rockers from other applications. Some shaft systems have an issue on the push rod cup end requiring the block to be clearanced slightly as the angle is greater. Mr Branch would inspect several pu...

Re: An alternative to cadillac

Kind of hard for anyone who is not there to really see what ur seeing. If your out of spec is left to right off crank centerline then shims should resolve. If it is a forward to back (fore you aft) have not seen that Not sure what you bought but none of my systems are HS T&D FE Max VTR Anyway. G...

Re: An alternative to cadillac

All my shaft engines have required custom pushrods. Every one of them. Have also seen based on valves used that pushrods will be different for intake and exhaust. It is not uncommon also to shim to perfect geometry. Some shaft systems use a rocker off a Ford 428 Cobra Jet engine. Even the best shaft...

Re: New engine cooling issue

Not uncommon for a mechanical gauge to fail after being wrenched on. I have had it happen more than one time myself. Learn to get the feel of your radiator top hose and train yourself to be able to use that as a reference too. I know if I CAN GRAB MY TOP HOSE AND COUNT TO THREE THAT SHE IS NOT TO HO...

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

Well here is my opinion based on years around the Branch shop. Mr. B would never accept advertised duration. He called it inaccurate and a ploy the companies used to distort their specs. The only time he would look at it was related to a lobe profile. The 112 LSA is fine that will ensure your manifo...

Re: New engine cooling issue

Few things?

Could the radiator core design offer less cooling capability? single pass vs double pass or core size difference

Have you taken laser temp reading on the engine to see if you detect a hot spot?

Maybe try taking stat out and going with a restrictor plate and see how it acts.

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

What is duration at 50’ degrees and have you tried running a 800 cfm carb. ?

We run 650 cfm on DD 3,000 rpm

600cfm on a gear drive is way small based on my experience.

First thing I would do is borrow a 800 and see what you get.

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

What type of cam is in it now and what RPM range are you running your engine. Matching components is a big piece of the puzzle as is making sure the cam is degreed and timing set staked. Nearly every cam (flat tappet) Mr Branch ever touched was several degrees off. It was very common when he was des...

Re: An alternative to cadillac

Tech point: The last thing I would ever do is to run 100LL Aviation fuel in a vintage Cadillac engine at a concentration above 20-25%. On more than one occasion Mr Branch called me over to the shop to witness damage to exhaust ports on engines in which LL100 had been run in high concentration. We a...

Re: ISO: 455 Olds Airboat Engine Mounts. Anybody have any?

Not many guys alive anymore from the Olds era of airboat power. I had heard that in the early days of gear drives that Mr Kay was a big fan of Olds power and had a wood 4 blade on a boat over my way. If you have a Mount I’m sure it would be easy to clone a new pair but if your looking for ideas or m...
