Re: Hull Size for 0540

I think you should be OK as long as you don't plan on having more than 1 or 2 passengers on board. Mine is 13"6" with a 290hp O-540 and I would say that has pretty much maxed out the engine's ability. But my hull is high and the boat is pretty heavy.

You could ask Buttraxx in Cocoa; they may know someone. They do great custom upholstery work.

Re: Boat insurance.

Didn't Geico take over the insurance coverage for Boat US? You might check into joining Boat US if you aren't already and then getting coverage thru Geico, maybe reduced rates. My rate was reasonable and I have a pancake cage which I was worried about.

There are a million (literally) gators in the state of Florida. They issue only around 6000 tags if I am correct. What's up with that???

kudos to ButtRaxx

It's not often someone delivers more and better than they promised, but just installed my new seat covers from Buttraxx and they are amazing. Got the referral from Painterchic and gave them a call; they were courteous and efficient on the phone. Made the covers perfectly; my install consisted of abo...

Re: Vinyl wrap

PainterChic put a wrap on my airboat about a year ago, and after moderately rough use, duck hunting, etc., it looks good as new.
Slid broadside into a cypress knee and dented the side of the boat, but didn't damage the wrap. Reasonable rates and will travel to you. :thumbright:

Re: anyone running 0720 on their boat

I think the down side is fuel consumption; I have seen figures of 20 gallons/hr. avgas, which is going to add up.
Would be interested though; sent you a PM. Thanks!

Re: Freedom ride..What's the water look like at Kissimmee

I was all over it last weekend and the water is high and great riding. You just have to watch out for the wind. Been really windy lately. Fortunately there is enough covered shoreline and islands to get around pretty comfortably.

Lycoming IO-720

Performance with my 13'6" boat, kind of heavy and always loaded up, is marginal with 290hp Lycoming O-540. Anybody have any real world experience with the 400hp IO-720? Specifically, fuel economy. My current rig is thrifty at about 5 gph at cruise of 2000 rpm, 30mph by GPS. How many gph will I burn ...

Re: Reoccurring birds nest.. ???

Go to West Marine or any other similar marine supply store and buy the inflatable snake. I call it Jake the Snake. Tie it up over your boat. Problem solved. Works great; just be prepared to scare the hell out of yourself every time you forget it's there and look up!! :florida:

Re: mufflers

Thanks everyone; that's all good information. Will try some bullet mufflers first, and if that doesn't work, go to pipes instead of the flextube. Agree the NGQ is quieter than the Q series, but still need something more. :florida:

mufflers

Any advice on mufflers? Have an 0-540 with just flextube, and an NGQ prop, cruise is 2000 rpm and it's just a little too noisy; ears ring for a couple of days after a trip, using both NRR 31 db earplugs and NRR 32 db Peltor Ultimate earmuffs combined. Thanks. :florida:

Was thinking of checking out Lake Panasoffkee as I have never been up there before; any suggestions on where to launch? Also, can I go under the bridge on what looks like 470 west of the lake, or is it too low? If so, where do I launch to cruise the Withlacoochee west of the lake? Looks like from Go...

Re: 0540 prop Q/A

I have the same boat/engine as you. It came with a 74" Q series 2-blade prop. that made a lot of high end noise and was only fair I would say. I just upgraded to a 74" NGQ 2-blade prop. and the performance is much better; gets up on a plane faster, with faster cruise. Fuel economy about the same. Th...

Re: Any of these in America? Diesel 2 stroke

The Oliver Super 99 GM tractor from the 1950's has a Detroit Diesel 3-71 supercharged 2-cycle diesel engine; incredibly loud and powerful. It's like driving a tank. Big heavy tractor with unbelievable torque. Only hard part is starting when really cold; likes a little ether in the dual air intakes (...

new NGQ prop observations

I recently swapped out my 74" Q series Sensenich prop for a new 74" NGQ prop and here are some preliminary observations from a few hours out on the water today. I have a pretty heavy boat; a 13'6" Diamondback with a 40 gallon fuel tank (full), stainless cage, and a Jurnigan 290 hp Lycoming O-540 eng...

Re: Sliding around Bushnell/Floral City area

Thanks for the info.!! From the maps, looks like if I go west from the lake, I need to go under CR 470 to get to the river. Is the bridge tall enough to fit?? If I go north on the river, I hit route 44; is this a high enough bridge also? Thanks for the help! :florida:
