Re: No Alternator Juice

Thanks everyone- good info to know.
I'm just starting engineering college so I think I'm gonna try to do the conversion for fun, and to learn something new :thumbleft:

Looking for a hull

I checked the classifieds, didn't see much so I guess I can post here. Anyways I'm thinking about looking for a different fiberglass hull, maybe buy or trade, or possibly even find something that is engine stand set up for a 220. Just trying to explore options if they're out there. Or even aluminum ...

No Alternator Juice

My alternator isn't producing any electricity, not sure if I have it hooked up wrong or what. I got it new from the auto parts store and it's been almost 2 years but I'm just now trying to figure it out. Do alternators have to be "self-exciting" for airboat use? If anyone could help, I'd appreciate ...

The design I was going to suggest, and the design on my boat, is similar to the pics posted above; I highly suggest doin your supports that way. As far as material I just used conduit.

Alternator

I've ran a wire from my alternator to my volt gauge, but haven't connected either end yet; I'm not sure which connections to make. The back of the alternator has two spots for wire connectors to slide onto, and I'm not sure if I need to use the one on the left or the one on the right. Also, on the b...

Pulled off a miracle

All stock GPU on a 12' Big o from Okeechobee back in the day, the boat went to Tennessee, there weren't alot of running opportunities up there so it sat without running for over 10 years. It was locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Over the course of about a year, I pinched enough pennies, found good d...

Re: 220 GPU , Holley 500 Main Jet size.

My GPU is all stock other than the carb, which happens to be a holley 2 barrel, 50cc accelerator pump, cheap $15 Advance Auto air filter, and I plugged all vacuum lines. Works like a champ.

Starter issues

The starter on my 220 GPU is having some issues. It will jump out and engage on the flywheel, but once the teeth are locked in/engaged the starter won't actually turn it over, instead it just makes some wierd grinding noise. It sounds like it is turning on the inside but not on the outside. Does any...

Good to know, I just put a 2 barrel 500 on my 220 and I know exactly which one you're talking about, I'll keep my eye on that.

Re: Paint

I was putting my motor together and while I had it apart, I sandblasted the valve covers and then just cleaned them off good with some acetone before paint. As far as paint, I went up to my local airport to the part store and got some $7 cans of aircraft engine enamel. Kept it cheep and if I ever ne...

Re: Updraft or downdraft on 220 conv?

I have no intention on doing a conversion any time soon, mine is stock now. In my personal opinion though, if I were to convert, I like the idea of 520 gitsu cylinders. You gain almost double the horsepower, you have the advantage of the strong GPU camshaft from the original setup, and the intake is...

Re: OPEN VS SOLID GRASS RAKE

I'm planning on having mine made out of conduit with cage wire on it, and a short, metal plate on the front for pushing water if need be. Maybe mount a frog chute and try out some of those LED bars that everyone has on their trucks now. See how they work.

Rigging help

Please post pictures of your boat/boats here so I can see how the foot stand/rigging is built. I will be re-building mine eventually and want to see a whole bunch of different designs and make one collective design out of what I see. The more pictures the better! Thanks! Also, the essential question...

Re: Best way to remove old poly bolts?

Electric drill and a wrench. Flip it over, put it up on blocks (so someone can crawl under it), they put the wrench on the nut and let the wrench rest on the runner (instead of holding it by hand). The person up top backs out the bolts with the drill and a phillips bit. I've done it this way taking ...

Now that you're reading this,

Can you comment your recommendations on where or how I can get my hands on a set of six 220 GPU jugs that are standard bore? Thanks.

P.S. No junk or destroyed parts.
I'm in Indian River County.
