Starter Issues

Thanks for the link skinny. I actually did it with a screwdriver but figured that wasn't the right way.

Has anyone had a bad experience with skip whites starters? I've heard good things about them here.

Starter Issues

Looks like a new starter is what it will take.

What is the proper way of aligning a starter? Is there a way to engage the armature so that you can tell pinion gear is meshing properly with the flywheel teeth?

Starter Issues

Quick history on the issues we've hd with the starter on a 502bbc. Original starter began to get weak and needed a beating now and then. Long story short we had to buy a cheap new(not reman.) starter from oreillys because it was late and napa was closed. The starter worked great for a while(quiet an...

Oil in coolant?

I'll do a compression test on all cylinders to start out.

The oil was low when I got back so I know a decent amount was pushed through.

Engine ran rough on the ride back but got to a point at 3700 rpm where it ran perfect so I just cruised at that. Idle perfect at the ramp.

Oil in coolant?

Not what I wanted to hear...

Would the compression test decipher between gasket/block or will that just show me which cylinder to check?

I looks like a lot of oil leaked into the coolant

Oil in coolant?

502 bbc

Engine started running a little rough on the way back to the ramp. Stopped to check everything and saw oil in the coolant overflow. All gauges were showing good and the oil looked good...no water there.

So am I looking at a blown head gasket most likely?

Re: has anyone ever run up the guadulpe from seadrift up

I've been up it but we were in a mud boat. There are lots of low hanging limbs plus a pretty low bridge, if I remember correctly, not too far upstream. Tons of gators in there. I've never really enjoyed running narrow rivers or creeks, would much rather run open skinny water where its more "fre...

Re: Mudboat poling platform build

we are all under 180 soakin wet, so not too worried about weight, the long boat helps with that. It is pretty stable, the 18ft length makes up for the narrow 48" bottom. There will be a rail to lean/hold so it will be easy to stay up there, I couldnt go lower due to the motor height when tilted...

Mudboat poling platform build

I'm in between graduating college/starting a career so i've had to get my boating fix running a buddy's mudboat. He wanted a poling platform for when when fish the backlakes for reds so i decided to build him one, considering they want $500+ for a new one. I did the design/cutting and oneshot welded...

Re: Poaching for fun???

Poachers around here aren't in it for meat, its mostly for $ or just to kill the animal because its a trophy. If someone was out poaching in a boat they obviously arent doing it for the meat, if they are then they made very poor financial decisions on buying a boat instead of providing for the family.
