Re: 520 Continental rebuild

You have to take them apart and clear all oil from them, if too tight, you knock the tips out of the tubes and trim the tubing to suit. That's the route I tried to take on the pushrods, but for the life of me, I couldn't get the ball end out of the pushrod. My pushrods look like the ball ends were ...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The 72 Q two blade would be a very good test prop. A strong DD Caddy can whip up a 74 with quite a bit of pitch. Based on that I would guess your 408 and a 72 would come in around 1.5 mark for a starting point. After 50 to 100 hours of run time things will loosen up and you should gain about 50rpm ...

Spoke with Andrew at Water Walker today, ordered 2 new Signature Series blades since the ones I have are 16 and 12 years old and showing their age. Gonna talk to Mike Broadway at Competition Motorsports in Sarasota about putting it on his dyno to get real power numbers. I'm getting ahead of the gam...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

Did this thread die or is it in testing? Not that it matters that I also thought a ford granada windsor had a chance on a airboat? About 20-30 years ago? It's in progress. There's no reason it won't perform to the op's expectation. My Son has the same hull, with a DD 385" sbc and it runs great...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

I've read several articles on porting BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT!!! The all said intake ports need some type of texture to help atomize the fuel. Mirror smooth will produce fuel droplets on the walls because there is no turbulence. Now the did say the the exhaust can benefit from a smoother surface due ...

Once it's all said and done, let me/us know when you plan to go to Kissimmee, would like to join you to see how it performs. We go there often, great place to ride. If you aren't familiar with Kissimmee and the marsh, we can show you around.

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

Glad to see the build coming along. Your 408 will come in weighing less than my Son's iron head 383, and you'll have more torque also. Can't wait until you finish. I know how my Son's boat goes with the same hull as yours, no reason your boat won't perform better than ours, which we are happy with. ...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The last place I worked, the owner had a brand new GT350R. It was one nasty sounding ride! He took it to Sebring for a track day and it was an animal. Might work well with a gearbox. It sure would wind up quick! Don't know if the Voodoo is a better design than the Coyote, but I agree, that flat pla...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

You're gonna sh*t a twinkie when you romp on it for the 1st time. It will allow you to add pitch, but the biggest improvement you will notice is how much quicker it winds up compared to your stocker (as long as your cam is ground to hit max torque in your target range). It will jump out of the hole ...

I have one sitting in the back yard that does it pretty good. I don't know the horsepower, but it's a home-built 385" SBC, stock Vortec heads and roller cam, 12' Big O hull with poly, 70" Q turning 2800 - 2900. [quote="Slidin Gator"] I don't know what the hang up is with ya'll c...

1" IS huge, I was just curious, sounds like you know the in's and out's between the 2. As Swamphunter45 said, a custom cam would be the way to go to ensure your torque curve is where it needs to be. I acually went this route with a Foxbody stang my Son and I are building for the strip. It has a...

Re: Direct Drive

Thanks for the input gator. Do you have any suggestions for better cam companies? I've looked through Howards, Lunati, Crane, Eglin, even thought about calling Bullet to see if they might have a custom grind. Was planning on port matching only, Edelbrock makes a set of E-street heads in 170cc intak...

Re: Direct Drive

Haven't decided yet. Thinking a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy XE250H. Short duration with a pretty decent lift, but gonna consult with the techs at Comp to see if there is a better option because of the displacement. Should weigh in close to the 302 with iron heads by the time I bolt on aluminum set. A 4...

Just looked at the Sensenich site, the 72" JM may be a better option for you than the JN I mentioned above. I'm sure others will chime in.

Re: 0470-R Prop options 15' Silverdollar

I would think the 72" JN would be the way to go? The 0470-R is rated at 230hp, and I have a IO 0470-L that is rated at 260hp, and I turn my 72" NGQ 2800 on the trailer, pitched on the 2-3/4 mark on the prop. I would think if your engine is healthy, you could turn a 72" prop, which wil...
