Re: Tach ?

Got my Stewart Warner tach from Summit Racing online. mechanical tachs come in several different ratios (under driven - over driven), need to make sure you get the right ratio (ask me how I know)

Re: New engine

16' boat, you're probably gonna need a gear/belt box, and bigger prop to run dry.

Re: 400 sbc

Leakdown test 1st, then I would definately suggest a water test. 1 to get it up to temp under load so you can see the water temp and oil pressure, and 2, to see how it rides. Nothing worse than to shell out your hard earned $$$ only to find it bucks like a bronco, and/or leaks. Is it an open hull?

Re: Cool Video

awesome to ride in a place thats been closed to airboats since the early 80's Don’t know the place, nothing about it. You say it’s been closed to AB for 30 years but that sure looked like an AB trail. Looks like somebody runs it regularly. Poachers? Authorities? Am I just seeing things? The US Fish...

Re: Cool Video

Definately a cool place, wish they would open it up to airboats so we could ride there all of the time, but we will probably never see that happen. It was still great to see a small portion of it this past weekend, a very rare opportinity.

Does anyone know if Gary Barber is still in business? I have had business dealings with Gary several times in the past, but recently have not been able to contact him. Mike I believe Gary had to shut down for now, I spoke with him last week about some issues I was having, and he was able to help me...

Re: Oil cooler lines

I'm not an expert, but I belive it does matter. If it's mounted upsidedown, seems to me the oil will flow from one port, directly to the other, never filling up the cooler, therefore not cooling the oil via airflow through the fins? Just my opinion, I'm sure others will chime in. Mine's on top, but ...

0470 VALVE LASH

I've looked at the sticky containing the overhaul/maintenance manuals on here, and can't find anything regarding the valve lash setting for my IO-0470-L. I replaced 3 cylinders on one side of the engine, and when I re-assembled it, I had a tough time getting the rocker shafts back in, and once in, I...

Re: Direct Drive - Pros and Cons Please

Nothing wrong with a DD, especailly as an entry level boat. For those on the fence when purchasing their 1st boat, it's an option to look at a DD from a cost perspective, rather than spending big $$$ and then deciding it's not for you, or you never have time to use it. If you go the DD route, just g...

If the mag switches are working and grounding the mags, sounds like maybe a timing issue? Are you running AV gas? based on your description, still sounds like the mags aren't grounding. I'm sure others will chime in.

Total Truck Parts in West Palm, they'll have what you need. They carry Spicer joints, I prefer them over the others.

Re: inline 6 or 350?????

A 300 (with a 240 head if you can find one, bumps up the compression a little), dual exhaust manifolds from a fuel injected 300, Clifford or Offenhauser intake, holley 350 or 500 2 barrel, and go have fun.

I use a pair of vice tongs "c-clamp vicegrips" on the heel of the rocker at pushrod end, be careful not to disturb pushrod washers, seals. Once lifter deflates hold your mouth just right and push rocker shaft through bore while releasing grips, then reclamp to check lash. Thanks John. We'v...

Re: BLEEDING LIFTERS 0470

Turn prop until valve opens, wait a few minutes then turn to top dead center on compression. That will bleed them down. Thanks Gary. What I'm trying to accomplish is installing the rocker arms. Right now, I can't get the rocker arm shaft in because the pushrods are extended a little too far, even on...

BLEEDING LIFTERS 0470

I just replaced 3 cylinders on my IO-0470. I'm assuming I need to bleed the lifters before installing the pushrods and checking the lash? If so, can you bleed the lifters while still in the case?
