Re: Fuel pump : electric vs manual

Not knowing what engine you run, but for an aircraft engine, a manual pump has the advantage where if the battery or alternator takes a dump, the engine will still run if it has a manual pump (assuming said aircraft engine is equipped with mags). On a car motor, you don't have that advantage. I beli...

Re: Lets hear about your first boat

1982, 10' jon boat with a Briggs & Straton 7hp engine (pull start), wood prop, dog leg steering. Gigged a lot of frogs with that little boat. It fit in the back of my pickup and I could launch it anywhere. Stepped up to a 11' Gore hull with a 150 Lycoming around 1985.

Re: Stuck near puzzle lake

Best advice I can give you (I speak from experience) is to join a local airboat club (I have a membership with a couple of clubs). There are many great clubs out there that are always looking for new members. Another lesson learned by me years ago, don't go out alone. At least if there's 2 boats, yo...

Re: 2019 Mack's fish camp ride and cookout confirmed

As in previous years, I plan to attend again. I can't make the AAOF ride, but will be at the Mack's ride. My Son will also be there with his boat, hopefully it won't storm like last time so we can get some ride time in (knock on wood). Look forward to seeing ya'll.

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

The lifters can't be adjusted. I'm not sure what the max lash was on my 0470, but I seemed to remember it was something like .250 with the lifter disassembled and completely collapsed, which seemed huge? Maybe one of the Continental guys will chime in? I had the opposite issue, my lash was too tight...

Gotta be pretty happy with that final "wet" weight? Can't wait till you water test it. Pretty sure you're gonna sh_t a twinkie when you see how fast it jumps up on a plane compaired to your old 302. Keep up the posts!

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The numbers look great, I think you'll be pleased with the performance. What carb was on it for the dyno run? I don't have any experience with Water Walker, but if I was in your shoes, I would take Slidin Gator's offer on testing it with the 72" Q after you test run it with your WW. I also have...

Re: Heat Extractor

I've run one on my 0470 for the last 2 years. When I installed it, I was hoping to see a little reduction in oil temp, but I didn't notice any difference (it runs about 180 - 190 with or without it). I've left it on in hopes it helps the middle cylinders run a little cooler but I don't have a cyl he...

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

You have to take them apart and clear all oil from them, if too tight, you knock the tips out of the tubes and trim the tubing to suit. That's the route I tried to take on the pushrods, but for the life of me, I couldn't get the ball end out of the pushrod. My pushrods look like the ball ends were ...

Valve lash is adjusted by disassembling the hydraulic lifters and removing all oil and assembling virtually dry, wd 40 to not gall the plunger or bores, once back together rocker arm shall have roughly .028 to.110 lash for that engine, been a while, check specs in slidin gators link I just went thr...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The 72 Q two blade would be a very good test prop. A strong DD Caddy can whip up a 74 with quite a bit of pitch. Based on that I would guess your 408 and a 72 would come in around 1.5 mark for a starting point. After 50 to 100 hours of run time things will loosen up and you should gain about 50rpm ...

Spoke with Andrew at Water Walker today, ordered 2 new Signature Series blades since the ones I have are 16 and 12 years old and showing their age. Gonna talk to Mike Broadway at Competition Motorsports in Sarasota about putting it on his dyno to get real power numbers. I'm getting ahead of the gam...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

Did this thread die or is it in testing? Not that it matters that I also thought a ford granada windsor had a chance on a airboat? About 20-30 years ago? It's in progress. There's no reason it won't perform to the op's expectation. My Son has the same hull, with a DD 385" sbc and it runs great...

I've read several articles on porting BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT!!! The all said intake ports need some type of texture to help atomize the fuel. Mirror smooth will produce fuel droplets on the walls because there is no turbulence. Now the did say the the exhaust can benefit from a smoother surface due ...

Once it's all said and done, let me/us know when you plan to go to Kissimmee, would like to join you to see how it performs. We go there often, great place to ride. If you aren't familiar with Kissimmee and the marsh, we can show you around.

Glad to see the build coming along. Your 408 will come in weighing less than my Son's iron head 383, and you'll have more torque also. Can't wait until you finish. I know how my Son's boat goes with the same hull as yours, no reason your boat won't perform better than ours, which we are happy with. ...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The last place I worked, the owner had a brand new GT350R. It was one nasty sounding ride! He took it to Sebring for a track day and it was an animal. Might work well with a gearbox. It sure would wind up quick! Don't know if the Voodoo is a better design than the Coyote, but I agree, that flat pla...
