Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

The last place I worked, the owner had a brand new GT350R. It was one nasty sounding ride! He took it to Sebring for a track day and it was an animal. Might work well with a gearbox. It sure would wind up quick! Don't know if the Voodoo is a better design than the Coyote, but I agree, that flat pla...

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

You're gonna sh*t a twinkie when you romp on it for the 1st time. It will allow you to add pitch, but the biggest improvement you will notice is how much quicker it winds up compared to your stocker (as long as your cam is ground to hit max torque in your target range). It will jump out of the hole ...

Re: any built a dd sled ....in progress of finishing my just curious if they slide right with carmotor

I have one sitting in the back yard that does it pretty good. I don't know the horsepower, but it's a home-built 385" SBC, stock Vortec heads and roller cam, 12' Big O hull with poly, 70" Q turning 2800 - 2900. [quote="Slidin Gator"] I don't know what the hang up is with ya'll c...

1" IS huge, I was just curious, sounds like you know the in's and out's between the 2. As Swamphunter45 said, a custom cam would be the way to go to ensure your torque curve is where it needs to be. I acually went this route with a Foxbody stang my Son and I are building for the strip. It has a...

Re: Direct Drive

Thanks for the input gator. Do you have any suggestions for better cam companies? I've looked through Howards, Lunati, Crane, Eglin, even thought about calling Bullet to see if they might have a custom grind. Was planning on port matching only, Edelbrock makes a set of E-street heads in 170cc intak...

Re: Direct Drive

Haven't decided yet. Thinking a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy XE250H. Short duration with a pretty decent lift, but gonna consult with the techs at Comp to see if there is a better option because of the displacement. Should weigh in close to the 302 with iron heads by the time I bolt on aluminum set. A 4...

Just looked at the Sensenich site, the 72" JM may be a better option for you than the JN I mentioned above. I'm sure others will chime in.

Re: 0470-R Prop options 15' Silverdollar

I would think the 72" JN would be the way to go? The 0470-R is rated at 230hp, and I have a IO 0470-L that is rated at 260hp, and I turn my 72" NGQ 2800 on the trailer, pitched on the 2-3/4 mark on the prop. I would think if your engine is healthy, you could turn a 72" prop, which wil...

Nice video. We were out there Saturday also (5 boats), was a nice day to slide. We did shoot through the hole in the wall, it was darn sure sticky, had to keep it mashed until we hit the water.

Re: ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP QUESTION

I run a Facet gold pump on my aircraft engine, and a Carter 4070 pump on my Son's 350 powered airboat. Neither of these pumps need a regulator, they supply 4 - 6 psi, which is compatable with most carbs

Got my Stewart Warner tach from Summit Racing online. mechanical tachs come in several different ratios (under driven - over driven), need to make sure you get the right ratio (ask me how I know)

16' boat, you're probably gonna need a gear/belt box, and bigger prop to run dry.

Re: 400 sbc

Leakdown test 1st, then I would definately suggest a water test. 1 to get it up to temp under load so you can see the water temp and oil pressure, and 2, to see how it rides. Nothing worse than to shell out your hard earned $$$ only to find it bucks like a bronco, and/or leaks. Is it an open hull?

awesome to ride in a place thats been closed to airboats since the early 80's Don’t know the place, nothing about it. You say it’s been closed to AB for 30 years but that sure looked like an AB trail. Looks like somebody runs it regularly. Poachers? Authorities? Am I just seeing things? The US Fish...

Definately a cool place, wish they would open it up to airboats so we could ride there all of the time, but we will probably never see that happen. It was still great to see a small portion of it this past weekend, a very rare opportinity.

Re: Oil cooler lines

I'm not an expert, but I belive it does matter. If it's mounted upsidedown, seems to me the oil will flow from one port, directly to the other, never filling up the cooler, therefore not cooling the oil via airflow through the fins? Just my opinion, I'm sure others will chime in. Mine's on top, but ...

0470 VALVE LASH

I've looked at the sticky containing the overhaul/maintenance manuals on here, and can't find anything regarding the valve lash setting for my IO-0470-L. I replaced 3 cylinders on one side of the engine, and when I re-assembled it, I had a tough time getting the rocker shafts back in, and once in, I...
