Anyone know how the water level is in flying eagle? Thought I asked this already but can’t find the thread. Thanks in advance.

Re: 520 Continental rebuild
How much extra power will those Ross 10-1’s make over the 8.6-1’s. Would it be the same as the Difference between the 7’s and the 8.6’s which is 15hp correct?

Come on swamp, we all get talked into watching the show, doesn't mean we come on here admitting it. Guessing you were just flipping through channels and "accidentally" came across this show, right?

Re: Tell me about this motor
I actually missed the part he had said about it being a dry sump. In that case it’s probably a E-185 or early 470 conversion to GITSU 520 jugs. Power would be the same though. Nothing different to check for that any other motor unless you pull a jug and check the rod bearing size. Always been told t...

Re: Tell me about this motor
For resale purposes the true 520 is better. For performance these motors are as good or better (I was told by the late Mr Stanley). He said this is due to the intake setup providing a more even flow of fuel. I run a 520 conversion (300hp) but it doesn’t have the gitsu jugs and it pushes like a tract...

Re: Tell me about this motor
It's a PE-150 (220 gpu) case that got drilled to take 520 cylinders. Uses the GITSU cylinders which sets the intake on top. Makes 285-300hp depending on pistons (7 or 8.5 to 1's). Been told they run more efficient that a regular 520 or 520 conversion. Smessler is correct, instead of 1 valve cover it...

Prop thoughts
I went and did it. Had my 520 conv on a light 12' hull will Quickslick that would go anywhere. Wanted a family ride boat so changed it over to a 14.5' Viking with rodboxes and poly (heavy!!!). Got stuck a couple times on maiden trip (did have 950# of people and cooler in it). Still ran the hill but ...

Re: Poly bolt spacing
Thanks southern, that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll stick with 6x6 or less depending on stringer location. I sometimes drive my boat like it's a four wheeler so I may go down to 5x5. Nice job on the poly by the way.

Couldn't get the time so I went ahead and had a local guy replace my stringers. By the way if anyone in the Pasco county area needs glass work done this guy is top notch. Worked for Stamas for 20 something yrs, retired and now has a shop in his back yard for side jobs. Bet his stringers or repair wo...

Re: Paint or gel coat inside glass hull?
You don't need much, 1.5hp/6 gallon compressor would probably do. Just need a regulator either on the gun or on the compressor to knock the pressure down around 40-50 psi. I do recommend hitting your existing gel coat with sandpaper and/or acetone to get the wax off so it will adhere better. I've no...

Re: Paint or gel coat inside glass hull?
Yes you can re-rivet it. As for spraying gel, you can spray from a gravity fed gun. I use this el-cheapo from HF. It sprays gel fine. You can also use it to spray your webbing, I geled and webbed one today. No reason to add wax to your webbing/gel mix(50/50), just mix it hot (8-10cc per pint) and sp...

Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm
Aircraft engines are designed to run at a continuous RPM of 2500-3000 depending on motor. Your 360 can run at 2750 all day. With that said though both boats are pretty big for those engines hauling tools or gear. JMO

Re: Stringer material?
I went white pine. I've resined them real good. Gonna do mat then a few layers of biaxial cloth/mat. Just not sure how many layers I should do. Thinking 1 mat and 2 cloth/mat. Didn't know if I should do a 4th layer. That biaxial stuff is suppose to be pretty dang strong. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Sensenich or warp?
Use to run a 72" 5 blade warp on a 285hp 520. Hated the sound and the sticky green grass would hang it up. Rapped up quick but just didn't have the low end needed to get moving if there was any resistance. Now I'm running a 72" NGH 3 blade on a 300hp 520, same hull/rigging. I spin it up to 2900 and ...

Re: Stringer material?
Regular old spruce pine huh? That will make it cheap. I had heard a recommendation of cedar but I was dreading trying to find that in 2x4x12 and then what it would cost. Thanks for the info.

Stringer material?
Got a new baby on the way so I'm gonna convert my boat over to a more family friendly ride boat. I'm gonna change hulls to a 15' viking with rod boxes. I've had it in the back yard for awhile because it needs stringers. Has 2x4 stringers now. Any opinions on best wood/material to use, would like to ...
