Re: 18x8 with 450Hp LS3

Not a chance. I have a 20x8 with a sprayer setup, a hair under 600hp, and mine won't run across wet grass. Let alone load/unload, or run the hill. Before I bought my boat I looked at a 16' with 750hp, and while it could run the hill with four people it was at full throttle to do it. If I repower it ...

Re: Looking for data about how many airboats in America.

Miami New Times says 12,164 registered in FL in 2017.

"Though an impressive 12,164 airboats, 1,025 of which are commercial, are registered in Florida, the industry is virtually unregulated. "

Re: Insuring a swamp buggy

If anyone stumbles across this thread, I figured I'd update it with a progress report. I tried to get an inland marine policy, every agent I spoke to said it might be possible as a rider to a general business policy, but not for an individual looking to insure a personal vehicle. I have tried the fo...

Insuring a swamp buggy

Like the title says, I'm looking for an insurance company to write me a policy on my buggy. Does anyone know of an insurance company that'll do it? Thanks in advance.

Re: Which big block - 454 or 496?

How pitched are your R blades? I went from a 454HO to a GTO/MAS 509c.i. and now I have a "good problem"..... I'm at the limit of my prop. I'm looking at several thousand dollars for four new blades haha. So something to keep in mind. We need more info... Is your 454 already bored to a 468, like your...

Re: Airboat insurance quote for a car engine 500 hp?

Hair under 600hp here... I'm paying Markel $1100 a year. I will not be renewing if I can find another company.

My boat is gigantic and SLOW. But seats 8 people, so if I was writing the policy that would've been a factor.

Aren't Sears Platinum made by Oddessy? This. I did a bunch of research before putting new batteries in my diesel Superduty and this was the consensus. But I called Sears a month or two ago, and was told they no longer carry the Platinum batteries. :( I cannot stand Optimas. I have had several of th...

Re: Need more push what's my best option

Do you know how much HP and TQ you're making? That will dictate the best box/prop setup. But even with low HP numbers on the motor, I think you're leaving a lot on the table with only a 2 blade prop. I think you could easily spin a 3 blade setup.

Best airboat STORAGE building?

I currently have my airboat stored in a warehouse, but it's looking like I'm going to have to find another place to keep it soon. Happily I'm buying a house with enough land to build a barn or shed. But with closing on a new house, I'd like to find a cheaper solution than a 40x60 steel building :sho...

Re: 502 crate motor recommended upgrades.

Go to the GTO website and look at the MAS motors they sell. The guy that builds them gives a great warranty and stands behind it. You will have a purpose built BBC and probably wouldn't be any more than buying the crate 502 and upgrading it. A friend of mine runs a tour boat with a MAS motor on it ...

Re: Lightbar on Grassrake

I don't think you need a curved bar. It'll take up much more depth to mount, and the light spill from a flat bar will be more than enough to illuminate the sides. For what it's worth I run a pair of the Light Headed cubes and I'm thrilled with them. I run them up on the cage.

It's not just here. I just got back from hunting ducks in Stuttgart, and the guides were saying this year is the worst they've had in a long time. I spoke to a Ducks Unlimited employee up there, and he said there are a ton of ducks stacked in the sanctuaries in northern Missouri. They're just waitin...

I'll second the Light-Headed cube lights. I run a pair of the spotlight pattern beams on my boat and they're incredible. Sorry this is the only pic I have. My brother was playing around with the lights, so the left-hand light is pointed up into the sky. Pretty much all the illumination on the right ...

Saw some while gator hunting in the Kissimee river last weekend. A big flock, flying hell-for-leather to the south.

Haven't gone out and scouted yet, I'll be out looking as soon as my new engine gets dropped in at GTO.....

Looking for someone with Dade county gator tags

I have a friend who has a couple 10+ footers in her cow pastures, and would like to harvest them. I know she can call a nuisance trapper, but she would like to be in on the kill. Anybody have tags, who wants to use them on some big gators, and doesn't mind taking a good looking girl along with them?

Man that's an awesome video. Looks like a professional took it out of a helicopter. You could probably make some bucks off Diamondback and GTO doing promo clips for them!

Did you do anything to the video to stabilize it?

Re: Family is growing and I need a 7 passenger boat!

This is my boat. 20'x8' GTO with a stock 454 and four blade prop. It'll run dry with two people on it, I doubt it would with seven. It's probably putting out 350 horsepower or less at the crank. I'm already scheming on how to get more HP and keep it reliable. If I'm still using this thing regularly ...

I really wish they would set a percentage aside for Florida residents only. I keep hearing scuttlebutt that the out-of-staters got priority because they pay so much more for permits. Of a group of about 20 of my friends, only 1 guy was awarded tags last year.

Re: Need of some good LED Lights

I have two of his cube lights on my cage... they're UNBELIEVABLY bright. I have Lightforce HIDs on my buggy and I think these put out almost the same amount of light, just spread across a broader area. I only have two weekends of duck hunts with them but if they're as sturdy as they're advertised to...
