Re: Would like serious comment on ducted fan airboat experim

Did some hunting and i found the research. It's quite interesting to read. One of the quoted texts says that a ducted prop can produce twice as much static thrust...

Or i think i read somewhere they actually have oil in them that needs draining?? Do you use those plugs to drain and refill the oil? and if so, can anyone tell me what type of oil i should be using?
cheers again!

How to grease a counter-rotating prop drive.

Just trying to figure out a few things on my new airboat I have the counter-rotating props on my gto boat with a 502. Label says to grease the lower bearing and 2 upper bearings. as far as i can see, there is only one grease nipple on the lower bearing and no nipples on the top 2. Probably a silly q...

Re: Just upgraded to a GTO 21' 502ci, having a few engine is

Ive just ordered this kit, http://pertronix.shptron.com/p/d8001-gm ... it-red-cap
so hopefully replacing the bits and pieces and checking the spark gap will do the trick :)

Re: How to stop so much bow spray?

I replaced all the engine mount bolts with stainless bolts and raised the back of the engine with 4 washers. Still heaps of bow spray...

I guess i need to go more washers??

The hull has a bunch of depressions not sure if this can completely prevent the hull from planing properly?

Re: My First Airboat! Not sure exactly what it is...

Looks like the engine is a 502 :) has 8.2 stamped on the block
and a ch3 2-1 reduction drive, which has a 400hp max stamped on it:/

wouldnt a stock 502 be more than 400hp anyway?

Re: My First Airboat! Not sure exactly what it is...

Hey thats great info, the guy I bought it off said this airboat was built for a mining company in western australia, it still has the company name and logos on the rudders! Yes it is definitely stainless steel, so its one of only a few that were made with stainless then? Is it rare to have one made ...

Re: How to stop so much bow spray?

Thanks for the reposnes guy, Deano especially. I did some searching and i now i do have a dent in the front of the hull which sounds like it would be called a 'hook' in airboat land :)
I'll sort out the dent, and see what happens, and then move on to adjusting the engine angle.

CHeers!
