aircraft engine spark plug options

Is there an alternative to the crazy 30 dollars each spark plugs I found for my boat o470 dual mag, 12 plugs. What do most people run in their aircraft motors

What makes a purpose built Airboat motor?

I'm curious what the difference is between taking a crate motor and putting a reduction drive on it, vs a purpose built airboat motor, what is being done to airboat motors that make them different then any other car engine. For example, a crate LS3 vs an airboat engine builders LS3, assuming stock c...

Re: Considering buy a aluminum engine

texas speed sells a kit to remove DOD that comes with everything except a new cam and springs I believe, which if your looking for a different kind of grunt from your LS motor, you are going to swap those out anyways. My personal favorite is the L33, but there are a limited number of them as they on...

Re: Craigslist LS1? What will I have to change to keep reli

dave is right, google 918 spring failure and its page after page of horror stories, and ill throw 1 more in the good springs pile, BTR http://www.briantooleyracing.com/660-lift-platinum-spring-kit-with-steel-retainers-sk001-s.html also, I would do some research on the machine shop, if you can find m...

Re: Best budget ls

They make dod delete kits, they are pricey though, off the top of my head I want to say 700-800. Your talking about quite a large boat, I would go with an lq9 if you could get your hands on 1, flat tops, 243 heads will bump compression to 10.5ish a btr truck cam kit stage 1 or 2, I'd call Brian at b...

Re: Ls (l33 HO)

All in all though l33s are great, aluminum block, thick sleeves, flat top pistons, 799 heads are identical to 243 ls6 heads except for heavier valves. They really wake up with a simple swap.

Re: Ls (l33 HO)

If you stay efi, be sure to try and grab the pcm, pedal assembly, tax etc, l33s are dbw, otherwise you'll have to run a pcm and throttle body from a cable 5.3

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

Nope no motor yet, I'm in the process of moving into a new house so I'm at least a month out from purchasing. I'll most likely stay efi, the truck intake, though big and bulky is great for low end torque, by the time I purchased the carb/intake/msd box, I could afford the hp tuner software.

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

While I don't disagree, cnc heads maybe overkill, by the time I pay the machine shop to bore and hone, get slugs from an ls1 and then have the new rotating assembly balanced, the cost for such would be greater than the difference in buying a 6.0 vs a 5.3 and I might as well start with a 6.0, which I...

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

AI ( Phil?) Is a very reputable source. AS IS waterthunder... But Dave specializes in airboats.. ... Buy whatever you can from Dave-ESP. cam kit and exhaust since they are most specific to our application. What does ai get for a set of Cnc 799's ? Or 243's? I'm thinking about going with his 218cc p...

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

Not me, I don't have the motor yet, I'm in my planning stage. I was actually going to ask if anyone was running the 2.9 ox on a smaller v8, I would think a 2:1 on a 5.3 would never make it close to an optimal efficient rpm range, the 5.3s like to rev which is why I was considering going with 2.9 ove...

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

I had already planned to run his headers, I couldn't find anyone else who makes long tube that exit correctly for an airboat application. I have a feeling his broad stick would make for a nice cam in a 5.3, considering he deals 90% in ls3 or bigger, the big stick is probably overkill for a 325 ci mo...

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

Even the so called truck cams push rpm into an unusable area, or have such aggressive lobes they'll wear out springs every 15000 miles, I'm not sure what that equates to in engine hours, but I don't want to have to replace valve springs every 12 months

Re: waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

just curious how his cam grinds differ for low/mid range performance, 80% of aftermarket cams sacrifice low end to get an extra 50hp at 6800rpm, a place where 50 extra horses does me zero good in an airboat application

waterthunder broad stick/ big stick specs?

Anyone know the specs on waterthunders cams? Thinking about putting together a mild l33 5.3 ls motor. 799s stage one cnc'd by ai, milled to 11.5:1, stock truck intake, long tubes, shooting for 440/440 under 6000rpm, considering hot rod did 411/406 under 6000 with a 210/218 cam on a bone stock 9.5:1,...
