Re: Ultrasonic Vibrational Hull Technology

Considerable work has been done by the aerospace people on using small, cheap! piezoelectric vibrators to energize and breakup the boundary layer of air that sticks to the smooth surface of wings, etc. Air sticks and builds up a stagnant layer that increases drag and messes up smooth flow.. Very dif...

Re: Would like serious comment on ducted fan airboat experim

Recent comments from others have been very practical. The trash in prop one in particular. I wonder what percentages of the airboat population don’t go deliberately into debris areas or do cross country but I sure agree it sounds a blast. Many videos and posts show a lot of cruising, sight- seeing, ...

Re: Would like serious comment on ducted fan airboat experim

OneBFC - I liked your Youtube “Unstoppable Ecotec” post. Here are some calcs I find interesting. Re Shrouded Prop calculation, Torque formula T = HP * 5252 / RPM, HP formula HP = T * RPM / 5252 hp = (880 * 5500 / 2.680) / 5252 = 344, 880 lbft/torque ~ 3.15’ = 290 lbft at shaft 880 lbft @ say 5500 rp...

Re: Would like serious comment on ducted fan airboat experim

Thrust, weight, high power requirements, noise, fuel consumption, safety and cost concern a lot of airboaters. There is practical and proven information available to address these issues. Relevant and useful reports listed below may be easily found by a google or other search. There are many others ...

Quiet Aircraft PropTech Useful

The HBG (HomeBuiltAircraft) site has useful info. Check their search box using "Quiet Propeller". Also "YO-3A" a military quiet observation aircraft. You might also search engine those terms. The general biggest bang for the buck seems to be go large diameter, low tip speed, multiple blades. If you ...

Airdrive for bowfishing or fish gigging rig.

A bow-fishing or flounder gigging rig would make a really good application for a simple, close fitting duct around a standard multi-blade, Hascon type fan and give up to double the thrust for the same power as an open prop or fan. I am going to work out details for a practical setup. It would be qui...

Re: Air drive on V hull

Kind of but much shallower inverted V, with a turning chine. Also with an efficient ducted fan air drive. Youtube TX-18 boat (google boat design by Bateau) to get an idea. I would suggest having the inverted V fair into the rear hull flat section about 1/2 to 2/3 hull length from stern.

Inverted Vee Shape Shape

I screwed up the topic name earlier. I meant an airboat with an "inverted or upside down V" hulls not regular "V. The hull is Sea-Sled. The web shows a lot of info that experience for many years it's proven that they work well in both shallow and choppy water. Sea sleds are flat or nearly so at the ...

Re: Air drive on V hull

I must apologize for title topic typo. I meant considering the possibility of airdrive for "Inverted V" hulls not "V". The hull type is often referred to as a Sea-Sled. A lot of info over many years states they have excellent performance in very shallow and other water, not deep. The hull type is st...

Air drive on inverted V hull

Anyone heard of a prop/fan drive on a shallow water inverted V hull. Like the Bateau Boats Texas Sled TX-18?

If you gave even a small description of what it is you want to test, and/or what your ideas are, you may very well get more interest and serious participatio...
