Re: Hunting Kissimmee chain of lakes
About 10 years ago I was nestled under 3 short cabbage palms turkey hunting, waiting for the butt-crack of dawn. Off in the distance I heard an airboat. Pitch black, no moon and no lights on the airboat, but it got closer & closer and actually buzzed me at 3 yards and prop blasted me on the way...

Re: Hunting Kissimmee chain of lakes
Sometimes a couple people in an area can help out. Helps to talk about it with the other hunter, but it can seem dicey at times. You never know how the other person is gonna be at 4am in the sticks. Two years ago, we slept in the boat at the spot for opening duck. It worked great until 5 boats storm...

Re: Hunting Kissimmee chain of lakes
I agree with that. People don’t seem to care anymore.
The other issue is people “claiming” spots by leaving all
Their stuff. It’s first come basis on public land. You have to have a couple of spots and expect to get beat to your best one.

I like to read through this stuff every now and then. Here’s some good material. It is the FWC airboat training.

I believe step hulls are geared for experienced operators. I would lean towards a standard fiberglass hull with deep sides.

Re: Why am I losing control in Shallow Water?
I took my first airboat to lake pierce and stayed towards the shore but more like 3’ of water. I may be wrong on this, but personally I think it’s easier to get into trouble in shallow water. I’m really skinny water you can find yourself getting pretty fast if you have to over-correct a steer. The o...

Re: Hog Hunting video
I'm not a law expert by any means but in my simple way of reading the Hunting regs and the Kissimmee chain brochure I'm thinking this is illegal. Although looks fun. If I am missing something let me know? Or if outfitters Lic is different ? Prohibited methods and equipment for taking game mammals a...

Re: Kissimmee water
I saw what appeared to be a rather large snake dead in the dead river area. At first, I thought it was anything other than a snake; but my wife swore it was one. I regret not turning around to look further.

Re: Kissimmee Lodging
You used to be able to park them on the dirt portions by the ramps for free, but now these areas are only for launching and retrieving. Now, you can leave your boat in the water as long as you rent one of the many docks they built on the canal. I think they were 10.00 a day when I checked last.

Re: Boat Ramps
Yea it’s a shame. Everyone wants to talk about being able to ride everywhere and have all the lands. Then they freakin throw trash all over. When the waters low, you can follow a trail of beer cans out. Really making a good statement about why we should get to have all this freedom. Then you got a h...

Flipping boat to apply slick bottom
Anyone flipping their boat on the side to put new slick on, or is everyone taking all the stuff out? Finally seeing some wear on the bottom. Don’t run much dry. It’s a car motor after all

Besides cows, turkeys, and other birds, I have only seen one deer in the past two years on the Kissimmee Chain. Is anyone seeing any hogs or deer?

I wound up going with the lone wolf assault 2. It only comes in at 11 pounds
I also got the muddy pro sticks; kind of. The ones I got were recalled so I had to send them back. Now I’m in limbo because it’s basically a mystery until I get new ones shipped. Pretty dumb.

Story Behind the Yacht Club
Spent some time on Lake Hatchineha yesterday and wound up getting caught in a storm. Luckily, I was right by the Yacht Club and was able to take shelter. It got me thinking. Who are the people that built the club and how was all that material moved to the location. It’s nice to have a good spot to s...
