Re: Beware Malabar ramp!!!

Sure seems to be a lot of bouncing around on the YES/NO decision to allow boats to pull up on the hill next to the ramps... Since Lawton was opened, I've launched and done just as DB0320 has without an issue until last September when Hope, one the reserve BCSO officers approached me telling me that ...

Re: with a broken heart we say goodbye to Florida Cracker

Sorry to hear of the news... Always enjoyed his SA rhetoric along with some of the other forums that he was involved with. I feel fortunate to have met and bullshitted with the man on a few occasions. He was definitely one of a kind, cut from the cloth of which it seems very few remain nowadays... H...

Re: 0540 VS 520 (WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE)

I'm kinda partial to my 520 and its chop. Truth be told, you can't go wrong with either.

These 520 vs 540 discussions are no different than your typical Ford vs Chevy or Aircraft vs Car Motor conversations. Most all time, it's gonna boil down to personal preference and or funds available.

Gyro, I'll take the blah, blah, blah as an indication of your little undies beginning to wad up... 7 guys in Russ's boat running light brown grass does not surprise me one bit. I'm sure he could run with a few more, as I have ran with a similar load with little motor stress and plenty left on the pl...

Check this out! (STOLEN)

Unfortunately, some close family friends of ours had a grill stolen from their property here not long ago. It was not reported immediately because they often lend them, sometimes without folks asking, so the latter was believed to be the case. These grills and smokers have cooked for literally tens ...

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

Just a couple things and I will let this go. 1. Your chart represented max ft lbs produced by the Eco while it only represented a mathematical TQ at the rated RPM of 3400 for the GSO. 2. Have you ever seen a dyno sheet displaying the GSO's HP and TQ curve. I have not. I'd imagine, like a diesel engi...

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

As shown in the first link for example, the 2015 6.7 inline 6 is listed at 385 HP. It makes that at 2800 rpms. By calculation, that is 722 ft lbs of torque. 5252×385÷2800= 722 They have the engines torque listed at 865 ft lbs. That's a difference of 143 ft lbs. That's roughly an additional 20 percent.

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

Chuck, not once was it mentioned where the GSO was more fuel efficient or a lighter power plant option than the Ecotec. That's a no brainer. There's no doubt the little engines are proving to be great engine options. All I'm saying, is the torque math does not seem to represent the GSO fairly. What ...

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

I myself have no data to publish. What I'm basing my opinion off of is that of what Dan posted from previous testing, personal observation of the relationships between prop diameter to pitch applied to reduction ratio, and the fact that i have buddies with both GSO's and bad hammer big horse LS's th...

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

Russ, I understand the equation on how to calculate the torque numbers. What I do not understand, as Tony mentioned, is how an engine such as yours which by the numbers makes roughly 300 ft lbs MORE of torque with the 2.3:1 gear, is spinning a smaller prop than that of a GSO with a reduction of 1.5:...

Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

Russ, fill me in on where I'm losing ya... If I was to look at the torque data you posted, it would lead one to believe that your 2.0 Ecotec would out perform a GSO480 being as there is nearly a 300 ft lb advantage on your end. While your boat does run exceptionally well, and am I by no means knocki...

There are a couple spots along the lake shore on the east side going into the north cove where there are fence lines running from the pasture out into the lake. Just something to keep watch for. Re: New Build EcoTec Turbo 2.4 (First build want advice)

Somewhere down the line you were told wrong or maybe just a misunderstanding on what you were told... While the reduction will act as a torque multiplier, your horspower will stay constant. The 2:1 reduction ratio is simply your engine rpms to your props rpms. It does not mean you are doubling your ...

Sniper, I would hope the state would address the problem with other vessels before they were to put the hammer down on Airboats. By their published Statistics for 2013, Airboats only accounted for roughly 5 percent of the accidents.

Re: ECOTEC vs SBC vs O-540, A Power to Weight Ratio Discussi

I wouldn't go as far as to say that dblj006. Any boat, especially an air propelled one, is dangerous under the operation of an inexperienced or reckless driver. There seem to be many sled boats similar to Diggin's, with the exception of an extra foot or two of hull length, with LS power plants and 6...

Re: ECOTEC vs SBC vs O-540, A Power to Weight Ratio Discussi

Diggin, in your situation, I would find ya a dynafocal mount 200 and swap out the hub for a larger one using the blades you've already got. The only modification needed would be to have rear engine mount bracket fabricated to mate with your existing engine stand. At least that has been my experience...
