Re: Has anyone found a way to grease steering cables?

Maybe your boat is different, but my cable isn't going thru too many tight places

Re: Has anyone found a way to grease steering cables?

Maintenance is what I'm hoping to do, rather than just replace the cable, I'd rather grease the one I've already got.

Has anyone found a way to grease steering cables?

Id say I don't know why they don't put grease fittings on them, but I bet they just want you to replace them.

Re: Recovery methods for a sunk boat

Thanks skunkape, from there you just tow it to the bank and winch it up til you can bilge the water out?

Recovery methods for a sunk boat

I've heard it said that there's two kinds of airboaters, those who have sunk a boat, and those who haven't sunk one yet. I'm lucky to say I'm the latter, but as part of a two man crew that spends roughly 80 man hour a week on the water, I'm sure that day will come. Best case scenario would be close ...

Weekly ride on orange lake?

I read on here somewhere that folks get together and ride every Sunday on orange, is that still the case? If so, when and where?

Re: RE: Re: Is there a formula for running dry?

What prop are you turning and what is it pitched at? I'm not sure the manufacturer and pitch, but its wooden. My dad swore by wooden props, probably because he had done this for the last 35-40 years. We're transitioning to composites now, and if we decide to replace the hull we'll put an adjustable...

Re: RE: Re: Is there a formula for running dry?

What are you turning that 190 wide open? Also, is that the O-435 Lycoming 6 cylinder 190, or an O-360 angle valve 4 cylinder...or something else? Rick From what I can gather from our engine builder (its one of five boats in our work fleet) its a lycoming o-360 that's been modified to make 190 hp. I...

Is there a formula for running dry?

Short story: is there a formula for getting a boat to run dry? Is it just thrust versus weight, or does hull design play a part? Assuming they both have poly on bottom, would a wider hull with more ground contact but lower pounds per square inch against the ground be better than a narrower hull with...

Ear protection for dogs

Does anyone use ear protection for their dogs? Occasionally ill see boats go up the Santa fe with dogs in em, and it seems cruel to have em in an airboat with the noise and their sensitive ears. I see "mutt muffs" online, has anyone tried anything? I cant see a dog not shaking off those &q...

I was thinking using the 8hp to make a mud motor, but an airboat would be more fun [emoji5]

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: 8 HP briggs setup

How did you end up setting up that 8hp Briggs? With a tiller or with rudders? Did you use a reduction or direct drive? Re: RE: Re: is it ok to use aviation spark plugs O-540

There are quite a few threads on here about 0-540 plugs. Do some looking. I run Champion D16 but any brand in that heat range will work. If you are running the right automotive plug, you should get 25+ hours on them unless you idle around a lot in whick case you may foul a few. Could you get more h...

Re: RE: Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

What I'm trying to get at is that not all 0360s are set up the same. Your mechanic will know yours best. My builder set my motor for wide-open throttle. The closer I get to 2700 the closer to perfect my mixture is. It runs rich at lower RPMs. And the oil temp won't tick till I run it 2/3 throttle f...

Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

We spend 80-90% of our time in these boats at a fast idle, so I guess I hadn't realized how underpowered these boats were, I knew they wouldn't run dry but I figured staying on a plane between the ramps and our work areas wouldn't be an issue. Ill just have to be aware of headwind and engine speed. ...

Re: RE: Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

Sounds to me like you are trying to get advice from here to disagree with what the mechanic who works on you're motors said. Sounds like trouble to me. He knows those particular motors better than anyone and the guidance of even a moderate to poor mechanic who knows those particular motors is 1000 ...

Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

Hi all, I was hoping someone could clue me in about appropriate cruising rpm for the boats I use. A little background, I work out of two company owned boats, one is a 14'x~6' alumitech with an o360, and the other is a 14'x8' palm beach style hull with an o320. The o360 was rebuilt about 300 hours ag...
