Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

From what I’ve heard I have to assume there is no warranty. I have mine on the boat and running... I guess I should feel lucky? Image

Unfortunately they’re all damaged but yes, one is far worse than the rest. The one with a hole in it.

Re: Destroyed my prop

The air cleaner stud snapped and it was the housing that went through the prop. Spendy lesson. Tether the air cleaner.

I could see the ramp when it happened. I idled a little ways then brought the truck to it.

Destroyed my prop

I had a prop strike this weekend. First thing is to see about repair. I was running a 3 blade sensenich S 81” with a 2.3 belt at 1.75 mark (15.5 degrees) with a 580 hp 540 big block built for 88 octane. So I do not know if they make the S blade anymore, I don’t know if a repair is possible. I’m curi...

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

So, the motor is in and I have made a couple runs with it. It seems to have great power especially when compared to the 454 I was running last year. It came with the jw wheel like was requested. It spins 3 - 81” S blades at 4800 with a 2.3 belt box on the 2 mark. The boats fuel economy got way bette...

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

Well, I’ve heard some things in my research and reviews about some problems. The problems with the engines I’ve heard of have seemed fairly minor. None have Grenaded that I’ve heard of. Mine is in route, too late to back out now so, we will see.

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

I am told that there are a handful of actual manufacturers making lifters in the United States. Morrel, Johnson, Eaton and Melling are names that I recall. The dog bone style retro roller lifters sold by CompCams and Howards appear to resemble Morrel. I have been in the Branch engine shop when deli...

Re: 496 max compression?

I am in alaska and having a motor built for the gas available here. It is being built with 9.5:1 compression with al. Heads. There will also be a little bit wider lsa on the cam to keep cylinder pressures down a little to prevent detonation.

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

I did see the lifter information. I did speak with them about it and asked why they used the link bar style lifters and if they would change to the gm style. skip had mentioned the link bar failures you’d experienced to me and told me to address it with them. They told me they have had failures in t...

Re: First airboat cooling question

The cap on my expansion tank doesn’t have a hole. But there is an overflow hose from just below that cap to a reservoir mounted on my cage as well. If you get enough expansion it could come out of the hole in the cap and then when it cools down and contracts it’s size it would have less coolant in ...

My guess is the majority will say the higher ratio given the power band of the LS and the low rpm desired by the super wides. We’ll see.

Re: 383 to 454

Pretty sure 454 is ext balance and 383 is internal. That would change the flexplate. Unless your 454 is going to be an internally balanced engine. A 454 gm crate would be external.
