Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

its only fitting that if you use a CM engine on your second boat to name it appropriately "#2" :toothy7: Not a bad name, probably not the best though. I'm sure I deserve this. Put a stroked out Windsor on #2 and it might become #1 lol. Seriously I'm getting about the same power out of my ...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

Well car motor guys definitely don't pay high dollars for used parts like A/C guys do. With the competition in the SBC, BBC, and LS markets, car motor guys are able to buy NEW parts at COMPETITIVE prices. This definitely doesn't happen in the A/C market. :stirpot: So adding a 1.5 ratio gear...

Got a line on some good, used Engine mounts. Its prep day on the Engine stand and fuel tank. https://southernairboat.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/rtMedia/users/2619/2019/06/IMG_8783-600x800.jpg https://southernairboat.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/rtMedia/users/2619/2019/06/IMG_8786-600x800.jpg https://sou...

I called Greg (GMAC) on a Saturday and told him what I wanted he shipped my parts Monday and I had them at my house Wednesday, great guy to deal with and a wealth of knowledge that is happy to help and answer questions I would recommend him to anyone and will be buying any parts I need from him in ...

Re: Airboat

But it won’t run dry on grass. Its made of all aluminum and there’s nothing but aluminum on the hull Is this the issue ? No doubt bare Aluminum is not gonna run dry worth a crud. Aluminum grabs. You need a slick bottom paint or UHMW polymer attached to the hull. Beyond that you need to supply more i...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

I really didn't expect much useful input on engine mounts from a CM guy, don't ya'll call em motor mounts or something? Watch the whole thing for sure, always good for more laughs. But I think Ricky was talkin about gear box boats at 54 seconds on the timeline. :stirpot: :stirpot: https://youtu.be/q...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

I need some input on O-540 engine mounts. The old units are well past prime, isolation gel leaking and compressed well past spec. The present mounts are Lord (Dynafocal), the following part #'s: J-7763-33 J-9612-8 The aluminum spacer tube internal to the gel bladder is 2-3/8" long and the mount...

Re: Oil cooler hose

Here is the setup for me, any of these options will certainly work well. I do carry a short length of the hose and a couple of hose to hose barb fittings if needed for a patch just in case. https://southernairboat.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/rtMedia/users/2619/2019/06/IMG_8774-600x800.jpg

Re: Oil cooler hose

Diamondback sells SS braided ones for oil coolers I run them never an issue. Any manufacturer probably sells them . You Might be able to get the fittings and braided hose a lot cheaper and build them yourself online or local hot rod shop, or Napa. Mine have brass fittings on them not aluminum. Are ...

Re: Oil cooler hose

Gates 8LOC, it's 1/2" and 300 psi working pressure. Includes a cloth type cover. I get it at the local NAPA. But be warned, you need to use the Push-Loc style fittings (4 barb with the yellow plastic ring) to go with it, don't use any old hose nipple fitting. The hose is relatively stiff, makin...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

I’m no mechanic, but I would think your oil should stay cleaner longer now that you got rid of all the sludge. I will watch for it and report back, what you are saying does make sense. New oil mixes with oil sludge etc. I run a spin on filter in the oil cooler line. It bypasses when cold, but still...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

I changed my oil and filter every 25 hrs - what is your schedule?? I go on the 25 hour schedule too, but I have only owned this boat/motor for 3 years, no telling about the previous 27 years. I assume that the pan has not been off since Bob Stossel put it on. Changing the oil does not remove the st...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

I got after the oil/intake pan Sunday. Holy Crap was it full of gunk, 1/4-1/2" on gunk. On the plus side all that gunk had encapsulated all the aluminum bits (from a piston failure 2 years ago) that had not gone through the suction screen etc. On the negative side, all the gunk was really start...

Re: navigation gps

Many Garmin units can be loaded with BirdsEye, which is Aerial imagery similar to Google Earth, but loaded on the device and not dependent on an Internet connection. It costs $29 for a one year subscription. Once you download images to a device you don’t have to keep paying to use them after the yea...

I have been told that folks like all the extra details, so here it goes. I hope some of these pics are useful to someone in the future. At least I will be able to remember how to do it again. Running the wire wheel gives plenty of time to think. 2,500 lb boat and 500 Ft-lbf motor. Looks like 5 lbs o...

Re: 0320 or 0360

Prop hub bolts.
7/16” = O320 crank
1/2” = O360 crank

Also, if this is the thread you are referring to, note that was all for straight valve motors. Those measurements may not match angle valve jugs.

No, those Gold Flo's cost money. I'm talking about the 3rd fuel pump on the boat, the spare in the tool box. I buy the cheap $20 units and keep 1 or 2 for get home spare, I said they will sell for up to $75 in the woods when someone needs one. I use them on my buggy and keep a spare there too. They ...

Re: I'm Building 2 Stossel Boats with High Torque Motors

Here is the Friday night wrap up. I bought a set of gaskets for this motor from McPeck a couple months ago. I had to swap out a couple of cylinders earlier this year for a ride and used the McPeck intake gaskets on the STBD side. I ran them for 2 days and have now pulled them and will re-use them as...

It's crazy how fast the weight adds up, I bet once the weight is all trimmed down and the boats are revamped them boats are going to run great. You definitely make your boats earn their keep.
