Re: Slick mag condenser

Marksapp, I am not familiar with the Slick mags, but I imagine the operating principle is the same. These links cover setting up and timing Bendix series 20 mags on Lycoming 540 motors. https://southernairboat.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=700199#p700199 https://southernairboat.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php...

Hello The bad cylinder is the center one on the port side, the center one on the starboard side is the next bad one but within the 20 % any reason why being their opposing cylinders? The engine is air cooled, the middle 2 cylinders are shielded on 2 sides by another heat source while the outside 4 ...

Re: sensenich Q or NGQ lycoming 0360

The NGQ winglets are going to wear and need to be cut off depending on volume of riding and where you ride , they don't like sand . To be clear, I had Sensenich cut off the winglets when I bought my NGQ prop new. Not only to eliminate the wear issue, but to maximize working prop diameter by steppin...

Re: 220 gpu compression

Stang, Sounds like you could use a manual, dig into the manual archives at the link below. The 220 GPU is officially a PE 150. "Normal" in airboat engines is like a "Normal" length of string. Those Packet Engines were built for the Vietnam war to run gensets. Airboaters bought up...

Ahurd, you are piloting A Turd. STOP what you are doing, you are way over spinning those blades! 3,000 RPM is the tall end of the range. You need to add pitch to run between 2,800-3,100, find where she performs the best. Search this subforum (Prop Talk) for use of a protractor. There are plenty of w...

Re: 520 magnito help. Do not know what I have and lost all spark.

Like Bob I have switched everything over to Pacemaker. I would get out the checkbook and give Darren at Pacemaker a call. Otherwise, I have 6 Bendix series 20, 6 cylinder mags off Lycoming 540's that I am ready to part with. I do not know if they directly interchange or not, but we can sure find out...

Re: Engine noise

Those ticks or clicks are from the spring loaded impulse coupling on your mag. The impulse delays mag firing until 0 deg before TDC then it spins the mag quickly for a hotter spark. Once the engine is running centrifugal force takes this feature off line. It should be clicking on the starter too, yo...

Re: pe90 running rough intermittently

Gator, it likely just needs the Oring on the seat assembly replaced. That's a Roger John, but then the next thing breaks. My MO usually involves throwing a C note at any problem and focus on the ones $100 don't fix. If I don't do that I'm always fixing things. Sometimes it takes $200 to fix the mis...

New Holley electric pump, what is the fuel pressure? Voltage spike could be over spinning the pump and causing too much pressure and the hot ground as well, had same problem on a hotrod I bought. it’s the holley 4-7 psi above the tank mounted James, Is that 4-7 PSI pressure confirmed via a gauge or...

Re: Pitch and Tachometer Verify and Get It Right !!!

Whitehawk,

Thanks for the reminder, I find mechanical tachs to be easily off by 100-200 RPM. Electronic tachs certainly have their failure modes, but it's not normally in the small range (200-400 RPM off at WOT). Where I do run mechanical tachs I calibrate against a digital tach for tuning.

Re: pe90 running rough intermittently

Bad grounding will eat up any electronic ignition system for sure. The symptoms described can also be due to intake/vacuum leaks, a stuck float or blown power valve. First thing I would do is spray all your intake and carb system down with the rest of that ether to see if you have any vacuum leaks. ...
