Re: Hull jacks in a welded Stossel

Most true Palm Beach Hulls use wedges under the bulk head and they are normally not a welded hull. They are 100% riveted.

Re: Aluminum hull refit

All of the Palm Beach Style Boat builders I know using all riveted design use Steel Flex. And also use 3M Elastokote under all of the runners during assembly.

Re: Paint pain paint???!!

Roll 2 coats of sleelflex, on the sides you will need to brush it with a paint brush with lacquer thinner lightly until it kicks off. This reduces the runs.

Re: Paint pain paint???!!

Rust oleum has a epoxy urethane line of paints "9100" primer & "9400" topcoat. These are very robust coatings that are extremely durable, the appearance will be a 6 out of 10. If your looking for durability and looks I used the PPG line of coatings on my boat. PPG Self Etching Primer, PPG Deltron Ba...

Re: Laying wire questions

Galvanized Slickwire used for fencing. 1. Cut into lengths you need to cover the area you need. 2. Put one end into a vise. 3. Put the other end into a handheld drill and hold tension on the wire while spinning the drill. 4. You now have straight wire. FYI you should get a mig..

Re: GSO 480 set up

The only issue I've had with my 480 was the gearbox bushing wearing out. The trick is not to put a already worn out motor on your boat. Get a good motor and set it up right and you wont have issues like your speaking about.

Re: GSO 480 set up

I have a 42 gallon tank, lasts about 3-4 hrs. hunting dry, I take 2, 15 gallon cans and hide them in the woods for extending hunting time. They like a lot of fuel and if you starve it or run it lean you will burn it up.

Yes, dry sump system. As far as I know there's not a GSO 480 with a wet sump.

Re: GSO 480 set up

Phillips 66 Victory 50, 4 gallon custom sump. FYI if you use a custom sump it will have to be made with different layers & baffles to cut down on oil foaming. Foaming oil will destroy the motor.

Re: GSO 480 set up

Just my opinion but the last thing a GSO 480 needs is nitrous..but obviously I use my boat for a different purpose than what you intend to use it for. These motors are monsters if and only if they are set up correctly, Ex: correct fuel flow, cooling shroud, enough oil capacity, electronic Ignition, ...

Re: GSO 480 set up

Oh my, that prop is seriously undersized for that motor. Also it needs a high volume of fuel, I use (2) fuel pumps running to each side of the carb separately using 1/2" fuel lines.

I started out using the so called "heat extractor" with limited results. I dumped that one and had a shroud custom made with no issues since.

Geico Marine Insurance, they also will not cover the boat if the cage isn't enclosed past the motor. You could at least give them a shot.

Use wide blades..these motors can push a bunch but only if you prop it right. That razor and sabre would not perform as well as the R or JX 80"-82" 3 Blade

I have also had the air box plenum tubes that connect to the intake tubes get loose and cause the same problem. Just something else to check.

Re: 0480 backfire upon deceleration

You have a intake tube leak most likely near the cylinder..while the motor is idling spray the areas of concern with starting fluid and it will let you know which intake tube it is.
