Re: Gso480 prop

Use wide blades..these motors can push a bunch but only if you prop it right. That razor and sabre would not perform as well as the R or JX 80"-82" 3 Blade

Re: 0480 backfire upon deceleration

I have also had the air box plenum tubes that connect to the intake tubes get loose and cause the same problem. Just something else to check.

Re: 0480 backfire upon deceleration

You have a intake tube leak most likely near the cylinder..while the motor is idling spray the areas of concern with starting fluid and it will let you know which intake tube it is.

I use an electronic tach ran from the pacemaker box. So you see what the ignition sees, preference maybe?

Murphy's Oil Soap mixed with water works better than tire shine and way more economical.

Re: Finally almost there !

I run 4 gallons in my GSO 480 with no issues. With the GSO motors its important to use more oil capacity than needed for proper de-foaming in the sump. Also it helps if the sump is built right with layers of screen at different sizes to slow the oil down coming back to the sump (reduce foaming).

Thats a aircraft gearbox off a gearnosed 435,480,540 or 580 the ratio differs on all. Why would someone go through all that trouble to adapt that to a CM.

Re: looking at a Igso480

The power is uncomparable..it does require a cooling shroud with correct design, meaning not the ones that are 2" above the cylinders with the cute louvers. Letting the cylinders get hot will end this motor. The shroud goes with prop sizing to pull ample amounts of air through the cylinders, i run a...

Re: Lycoming Intake tubes.

No intake tube under any circumstances should have any holes in it. When i have intake gasket leaks the engine backfires and runs like crap.

Just looking at the pictures it looks like it would definatly run on its nose. the majority of your weight needs to be on the heel of the boat.

It has been proven that these "heat extractor" shrouds are a busted design. If you run a lake edge all day you will think there great. I rarely run water unless its to cross the river..

Re: Heat Extractor

The "heat extractor" your speaking of doesn't have enough space between the cylinders and the top of shroud. There should be at least be 10-12" of space for cool air to pass from the bottom of the cylinders through the top of the shroud. The additional space is needed for your prop to pull the air t...

5200 cannot be thinned with good results. If your trying to seal rivets or aluminum seams in a airboat/boat the 3M Skotchkote Electrical Coating works the best. This coating is used by a long list of boat builders.

Re: Lycoming 4cyl help identifying?

The part number thats stamped into the case on your last picture "69107" is a Lycoming Part Number for a O-320 straight valve motor. You could very well have different jugs on this motor. But the case is definatly a O-320. If you pull a rocker cover off the jug there should be a PN stamped.

House of Colors or PPG Products will work just fine. If you dont have the prep work done correctly neither paint nor powder coat i...
