Re: 351w carb tuning

390 Holley with the secondary metering plate kit, start with 68 primary and 73 secondary jets as a baseline, tune from there, you have way too much cfm for vacuum secondaries to open on a DD application. After getting it dialed in, the secondaries don’t open up until I’m at WOT. Acceleration is smo...

Re: 351w carb tuning

This is with 3 people in the boat. Short video but we ran for another couple hundred yards before returning to water with no issues.

Re: 351w carb tuning

Went ahead and rebuilt my carb and and reset the timing. Also ditched the warp drive for a water walker and man it’s like a different boat. I know the prop makes a huge difference but I believe I was dumping fuel from somewhere in the carb. Went for a long ride and ran a good bit of dry and barely u...

Re: 351w carb tuning

Running a summit cam for idle - 4500 rpm. It was the lowest power range I could find for a 351. And the intake is also made for low torque and is a dual plane. I was also thinking I may need to check compression. I have someone locally that wants to trade a holly 500 for my 450. It sounds like this ...

Re: 351w carb tuning

I will play with the timing and also try and get my hands on a 500 Holley. Aside from that is there anything else that would hinder performance that I could check. I feel like I should be able to put much more pitch in this prop for with this motor.

Re: 351w carb tuning

After looking at it today, the secondaries are opening at the right time. Pretty much right at WOT they open all the way up. Does turning a 66in warp drive at 6 degrees seem right? Or should I be getting more out of a prop that size. The engine runs flawless, idles great and has great throttle respo...

Re: 351w tuning

Ya I was hoping to hear from someone else who is running a 4 barrel on a direct drive and see how they have it setup. I see lots of people running the Holley 500 2 barrel but also have seen people say the 450 works good and offers great economy (I’m definitely not getting good mileage with it)

351w carb tuning

Trying to get my DD build finished up. I just feel like something isn’t right. Setup is a 13ft rivermaster with poly, 79’ 351w DD with summit 4400 cam (idle-4500), edelbrock performer intake, 302 heads, HEI distributer with curve kit, shorty headers into 3 chamber thrush mufflers. It’s spinning a 66...

Re: Outer edges of glass hull sagging

Yea the bunks sit right under the weight bearing stringers, it’s the outside past that where it drops down.

Outer edges of glass hull sagging

Is there any good fix for this? When looking at the boat from the front it bends downwards on the outer edges when sitting on the trailer bunks. The boat is 12x7 and past the stringers it’s like it’s just falling down. Tried adjusting the jacks but that just made it worse as it pulled up on the oute...

how far apart are your rudders now and how close are they to your prop?
Rudders are 20 inches apart and about 5 inches off the face of the hub.

Video of my First boat! DD ford 289.

Thought I’d share a video since I finally got her running right. Engine is out of a 66 mustang that was redone by ford in the 80s. Turning a 70x40 stick prop at 2700 rpm. I imagine a 2 blade composite prop would make a world of difference. I also think I need to space out the rudders a bit. It’s a l...

4 blade warp drive for DD?

I found a 68” 4 blade warp drive for sale in my area for a good price. Just wondering how it would work for my setup or if anyone has ran a similar setup. Setup is a DD stock small block ford 289. Currently I’m running a 70x40 wood prop at about 2700 rpm and im just looking to get the most I can out...

Re: Ford 289 DD prop size

So should I be looking at a longer prop or one with more pitch?

Ford 289 DD prop size

**first post** I’ve been running mud motors for the last few years and recently made the switch over to the airboat world as I run much for hard bottom super shallow marshes where the mud motors loose push. Hull is 12ft and unknown make and the engine is a ford 289 with a 4 barrel carb. the Prop tha...
