Re: 220 gpu crankcase venting

I run a oil catch box, see pic, I only use the Vent from the fill opening the other is blocked off. I’ve run for a year, never have any oil residue even in the opening of the vent.

When you say blown up. Elaborate? If you go another route let me know I may be interested in the 520 as a project.

Re: GPU fuel problem

I have similar set up. There’s more info needed on your 2 barrel set up. Is it new or used? Was it set up specifically by someone for the GPU? Does it have the filter (mine doesn’t)? Are the squirters working if it’s used? Power valve number? Jets number? Accelerator pump size? Most important has th...

Re: how d i tell the difference from a 470 gpu. and a 220 gpu ?

If it’s got the oil reservoir on bottom and carb on top it’s a GPU, if it has the oil reservoir on bottom and carb at the front with intake feeding bottom of the cylinders it’s a 470 conversion (520 could if decked etc), if no oil reservoir and updraft carb you have a ac 0470. Enjoy either way.

Re: Need a carburetor for Continental 220 GPU

Get a 4412 2 barrel. No choke! I have 76 jets, 6.5 power valve, not sure on squirters, but a 50 cc accelerator pump. Works great. Fenner is the man, do a search on here.

Re: Suggestions on how to paint GPU?

I pressure cleaned mine, degreased, wire brushed, more pressure cleaning, then addressed areas needing scraping. Then painted aerosol high temp refurb. I’m happy with it. If the boats unknown it may be a good time to pull the cylinders checked the rings pistons valves, clean the carbon re-seal and r...

Dropped valves in two cylinder heads. I have two to replace but looking for future part needs or repairs to these heads. One dropped the intake the other was the exhaust. Who’s got info on re working or were to buy? With 3a closed guess I have a couple weeks. I’m in Broward. Thanks in advance

Re: She’s done but needs tuning!

Still shaking her out. Have a starting issue. Once running she hums. I thin the gaskets are backwards or the accelerator pump has a blockage. Last run 15 miles give or take total. Initially float bowl was low, when warmed up would re-start, have to use ether when cold. Now float is where it needs to...

Re: Mechanical Fuel pump questions 220 GPU

That one and the Dodge Dart won’t fit due to the way the motor mounts were fabbed on my stand unfortunately. But I’m gonna get the 6 valve Chevy and mate the top to the old gpu bottom as a back up.

Re: She’s done but needs tuning!

bama are you running a battery ground cable close to the starter on the engine? No the case ground is lower L corner above the oil sump but that was my next thought, run a dedicated ground to rear bolt on starter. I also have yet to see my oil temp work which tells me the gauge needs a dedicated gr...

Re: She’s done but needs tuning!

Thanks! It’s a 220 gpu with dual mags no other noted enhancements from the former owner, has the spacer since the carb won’t sit flush (Holley 4412). Gotta clean some paint around the starter mount and/or replace start button, initially it would respond to the button being pushed, messed around test...
