Re: How far would you drive

drove 210 miles round trip for a year and told the boss the next project needs to be closer to home or I wont be on it. I would not do that again. 25 miles to work now but since I have to get on i4 thats an hour drive!

try Gary Barber at Outlaw Aircraft Engines (search here or google for phone). I've gotten two overhauled 480 cylinders shipped to my door from him and has been great for sourcing parts.

Re: Any Boat Builders Interested?

Unless someone knows where you can get a 10 foot wide sheet of aluminum the specs are already flawed. Says you can't have any joints, and says it has to be one piece. Doesn't say if its welded or riveted. Being 6061 I would guess it's welded. As far as paying, my guess is you would be good. Years a...

Stihl Chainsaw for camp

I'm thinking about getting a chainsaw for my hunting camp in georgia and it would be nice to have if we get it bad from hurricane matthew as well. I'm between the stihl MS-250 and the MS-291. let me know what yall recommend for a general use saw that may get some heavy action once a year.

Re: Pro's & Con's to a Deck Over Hull

A sled will do fine in deep water. People saying they don't have never owned one. X2 Glades "sled" in my opinion Pros: keeps all the leaves, sticks, critters out of the hull. deck keeps the water out when you dip a corner, wont sink when take a wave/wake over the transom/side/bow or idle ...

Re: Starter Bolts came loose.

My starter bolts kept working themselves loose so i took out the standard bolts for the starter bracket and replaced them with the allen key head style for easier access and safety wire. Haven't had any issues since.

480's are angle valve. Gary had me send him a pic of the cylinder because i guess there are two types with a small difference.

Gotta love Southern Airboat to bring out the truth! New airboaters looking for a boat/engine should take note of this... this i pretty common that the HP, builder, specs, etc in the description are all BS! :violent1:

Re: Need help identifying

I've gotten 480 cylinders from Gary and he is great to work with. He is located in near plant city/lakeland. I've picked up parts at his shop and also had them shipped COD. out of curiousity... how do you know you need to replace a cylinder but don't know which one? Also is it common to run hose for...

Re: 150 burning fuel

I feel like my 170 hp is not very economical on my 10'6" Taylor Hull with poly. I'm usually cruising at 2100-2200 and WOT at 2900. if you look at the gph for your cruise RPM its probably about where it should be on the chart in the operators manual you're just asking for too much from the littl...

Re: Actual horsepower of a Lycoming engine?

I have a "170" as you described. Not sure what the actual HP is but when i talked to Gary Barber he told me he really likes the 480 cylinders because they are more durable as they were engineered for the geared supercharged engines at higher RPMS (GSO-480). He said these are great candidat...

This happened to me it burnt a hole around the spark plug. more expensive to fix than just replace it.

Hey Guys,

I'm going to be living in wauchula 4 days a week for work on a year long project and wondering where to ride around here. Kissimmee looks about an hour away and not sure how airboat friendly the peace river is.

I normally dont go south of lake winder on the Jt. Johns but here are some locations you can launch between Lake Poinsett and Lake Harney that are easily looked up on a cell phone: Lone Cabbage Fish Camp - SR-520 near Rockledge/Cocoa Airboat Rides at Midway - SR-50 near Titusville. Airboat launch on...
