Re: Prop info

Key information would be to confirm if you are indeed running your stock 305 (or 350) SB as a direct-drive set-up? Assuming you are running as a direct-drive (no reduction), then the next question to answer is what is the full throttle RPM you can turn your current propeller? If you can turn it 2700...

Re: size of prop and ruduction or direct dive?

Those are some pretty standard questions to ponder with an automotive engine. There are pros/cons on both options. Boat size, weight, budget and intended use will be major factors to help you decide. Option 1: direct-drive - simple system, - lower build cost, - smaller diameter propeller required (6...

Do you have any diameter limitations? Do you know what bolt pattern Arrowprop put on your prop adapter?

Re: Prop adapter

Hi MaxxForce, Did you ever find an adapter for you 4AO84 engine? I typically see these engines with a special build reduction unit (Circle S Mfg or ArrowProp) that gives you a 1.69-1 ratio so you can turn 3600 RPM to get the max 40 HP without overspeeding the propeller. With the 1.69 reduction, we r...

Hi fishnhunt80 , I'm sure you have purchased a propeller by now, and you did get all excellent suggestions here on SA for propeller options and choices. For an O-320 4-Cyl aircraft engine I would recommend the following propeller options. The 3-blade Excalibur in 66" to 70" diameter is the top choic...

Re: Prop Direction SBC 327

Hi Don7843, I know your post is older, but I thought I'd make the sizing recommendation that you requested. For most SBC 327 direct-drive engines, the Whisper Tip Narrow 2-blade in 72" diameter would be an excellent choice. You could also go shorter, such as a 70" or 68", but it sounds like you have...

We did get Cmcintosh721 taken care of with an upgrade in propeller sizing. I think most of the suggestions given above were right on the money. SA members seem to know their stuff. :usa: For his BB 496 (500HP to 600 HP) with a 2.55 reduction, I would recommend either the 3-blade Whisper Tip SW in 84...

Re: Lycoming GPU Prop Advice

Hi Russelllaviolette, Typically the O-290 engines produce about 125 HP to 135 HP, and ideally would benefit from a slightly larger diameter than 60". I know there are some other differences between the aircraft engines and the GPU models for the O-290. But if your cage and hull cannot accommodate la...

Re: 76 stump puller or 75 3 blade h

Hi Cycoles, What engine were you wanting to put the 76" Stump Puller on, and how many blades? Is this for your 220 GPU engine? I can recommend a few options for max thrust on the 220 GPU. (Sorry if this is not the engine you are asking about) 1. Excalibur 3-blade in 72" diameter ($1790) 2. Whisper T...

Hi Fulldeckpower, Sorry, we have been on a bit of a hiatus from Southern Airboat forum. I'm not sure if anyone was able to help you with your Airprops propeller. We most likely can help you. We did make blades for Airprops under their design, and they do fit our hubs, and our blades fit their hubs (...

Re: DD thrust

The real question is what HP is your Caddy making at 3000 RPM. This is what the propeller (if correctly sized) will make Thrust out of for your boat. The magic is in the HP your motor makes at your max RPM, which is 3000 for a direct-drive set-up. If the prop is sized correctly for your engine's pow...

It sounds like you are on a budget, so I will make some sizing suggestions for your and then if you find any of these for sale used, I'd be happy to help you evaluate them if you have any additional questions. For your small-block direct-drive set-up, I would recommend the following propeller option...

Re: wood prop to carbon fiber?

If you can only turn your wood prop 4600 RPM, you are leaving a little HP on the table by not being able to turn a full 5000 RPM. The magic is in the HP your motor makes at full power RPM, and the propeller needs to be sized correctly to take advantage of the power that your motor makes to convert i...

Re: Prop and motor mount questions

If you plan to run your 427 without the supercharger, and the 2.38 reduction, I would recommend our 3-blade Whisper Tip EX propeller in 79" diameter for $2790. The Whisper Tip EX blades are the 13" extra-wide blades, and would be an excellent size for optimum blade angle for your engine's HP and ope...

Re: pe 90???? what prop to run

For your PE-90, if it is stock, you are probably putting out about 125 to 150 HP. I for this type of HP /RPM motor, I would recommend our 2-blade Whisper Tip (10" wide) in 66" diameter for $1590 complete. Do you know if your PE-90 is stock, or if it has been upgraded / converted? Do you have any dia...

Re: Prop adapter question

I think the Continental C-125 has the same flange as the O-300, which should be an SAE 3 flange (8-bolt with a 5.5" bolt circle diameter), but you should measure and perhaps take a picture to be sure. You will need an adapter that goes to the SAE 2 flange which has a 6-bolt, 4.75" bolt circle diamet...
